One thing I wondered about DaS is why they didn't give the godbosses (Seath, Nito, etc) at least some sort of personality. They colluded to kill the dragons as stated in the intro, so they have to have some intelligence, unlike most bosses in DeS or the generic bosses in DaS (Gaping, Moonlight Butterfly, the demons) so why not have them have a couple lines like the NPCs got to have?

The pinwheels aren't so much trapping him as there to be as close as possible to steal his power, however it is they do that.
His soul says that he offered much of his power 'to death', whatever the fuck that means is up to interpretation. As usual, no hard answers in dark souls.

Newfag here, got those game for of a few hours ago and aside from the crap control scheme, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
I'm having a couple of issues tho, mainly where do I go after I've linked up through the first undead place to the camp site? Do I try the graveyard or try and fight my way through the monastery place that the elevator links me too?
And my second question; how do I upgrade my weapons? I'm getting a little conceded cause all the generals I read said its better to upgrade my weapons than to level up, but I'm almost level 16 and haven't found a blacksmith yet.

One thing I've been wondering about: has anyone ever figured out whether the Dark Souls world fits together perfectly contiguously (which would take a lot of planning work) or whether the devs use some tricks in certain places like long corridors (whether up or down) to load you into a totally separate map so areas can overlap if they were really physically located, but in ways the player can't tell in the game world?
One thing I'm struck by with Dark Souls is how it seems like a totally contiguous world map-wise and I'd like to know whether that's a well-done illusion by the devs or whether if someone looked at the game in say the devs' level editor, whether the whole thing could be there at once with all the xyz values non-intersecting and such.

You tell me. I invade sens/anor londo mostly. I run the highest possible backstab damage, hornet, redtearstone, 40 dex. I use blindspots, high places, sharp corners and chameleon to hide.
I stalk and ambush! I don't bother with a shield and any hit ever or being spotted at all means I am super dead. This usually means navigating around/tricking 2 phantoms. I find it fun because I like stealth games, so I force people into them.

Is Dark Souls PVP ruined by lag on PS3 even if you have good Internet? New to the game--I got invaded once and it seemed like the guy was nowhere near me and then was able to backstab me out of nowhere a couple times. Then I got invaded by someone else later and the guy who invaded me seemed like he didn't see me and was reacting to what I was doing a couple seconds ago so I was able to kill him. This can't be how it is the majority of the time, right? Otherwise so many people wouldn't be able to amass and keep 99 humanity, they'd just lose it randomly to someone due to lag.

Dark souls pvp is super wonky at first glance. a lot of the crazy stuff is actually legit and you can adjust to, some feels wonky forever.
As for how people get 99 humanity, when your phantom is killed while invading you can easily get back your humanity/souls. No penalty for loss really, so you just get 99 humanity over time by 'accident'.

First part of sens is fucking awesome if you can get ahead of the host. My first run through of sen's I was mega-paranoid that the silver knight statues were a trap. When I invade, they are. That room with the first treasure chest is like a guaranteed backstab on lots of players, phantoms or not.

Not understanding how this game is so difficult.
Everyone always says it's such a hard, hard, hard game... but how?
There's practically no death penalty, and that's if I were to even die.
The only real handicap that I have is a limited amount of stamina, and were it not for that this game would be among the easiest out there.
That and your character's attack animations are ridiculously slow, even for the lightest of weapons. Even a "light" attack is a 3-second long thrust and I find that ridiculous.

Shortcut is in the demon ruins for later in the game. You'll find the shortcut at the end of a path that leads down from a tree branch. Nothing to worry about for a while.
If you want pyromancy, go to the depths and free laurentius down there. When he returns to firelink you can get pyromancy flame from him and upgrade it.
Pyromancy is useful because its damage doesn't scale with any stats, you just need attunement slots. This means you can have some back up magic for tough spots without being forced to use it a lot or change your build up. It costs a lot of souls though, so you'll miss out on some levels as a price for levelling the flame.

I invaded some guy in Parish I think on a SL29 semi-twink in full Chester's set with a +3 Occult claymore. Killed him and his sunbro and got some interesting fanmail.
My responses (roughly what I remember saying):
1. I'm not sure what you mean but I don't know you if that's what you're asking.
2. Other players can invade you if you're in human form.
3. You don't have a choice, if you're human you can be invaded and summon phantoms if you're hollow you're basically in offline mode.
4. My Claymore does magic damage that your shield doesn't fully block. And yes it is normal but you can only be invaded by people near your level.
5. That's not up to you.
He was German and definitely didn't grasp the mechanics of the game.

It's because humanity gives you curse resistance. When you gain resistance, it's added to the 'bottom' of your resist meter and has to empty out. This is either just an artifact of the coding used, or on purpose to swap you swapping to say, cursebite ring RIGHT after you see an enemy curses and getting lots of 'free' curse resist. If you swap to a 'bite' ring you'll see you need to drain out your new resistance before it's useful.

With 81 poise you can take a direct hit from a 2handed ultra-greatsword without flinching.
Most people aim for 53, a poise breakpoint for several weapons, because 76 poise implies that you're even getting hit by ultra-greatswords, the slowest of the slow weapons. Having that much poise, however, will help protect you from a few mistakes in PvP, allowing you to re-calculate your approach and adjust.
TL;DR, 76 poise is great. You won't flinch unless you get hit a bunch of times in a row.
