SOE tries to keep them up 24/7 but fails horribly.
2. /vg/ official server
/vg/ has no official server, we are spread over all of them. Try and pick a server in your region.
3. What are factions?
Factions are based off both the popular trading simulator, Hat Fortress 2, and the multiplayer version of SkiFree, Tribes: Descent.
TR- Terran Republic- red
NC- New Conglomerate- blue
VS- Vanu Sovereignty- green and purple
4. Outfits
Outfits are groups of players who attempt to work together. Either this leads to
a) fun and glory
b) military roleplaying
c) faliure
Playing with an outfit is considered better than playing by ones self. Better still is the VS Overmind.

Holy shit engineers are godly.
I was a fucking 1 man army. Took a single sunderer with the spawn beacon to cap 3 outposts and 2 amp stations.
Ended up taking a base that outnumbered us 3 to 1 easily, and then proceeded to hold off countless VS alien fucks.
By the time they took down my sunderer, I had made 50 certs off a single defensive action.
Turns out the VS had to get 95% to 5% before they could finally take the base.

With floodgates gaping wide and game made officially open, at least EU servers are so full that you are lucky if you get in without queues.
Hotspot (and thus drop pod) system works quite well, too.
And yes, they finally fixed the drop pods dropping you wherever they please. Now you can actually drop where you wanted to.
Optimization is still bullshit though.

Just give the shields a fucking health meter, they get depleted, you storm in, and if you don't take out the generator they refresh in like a minute or so, cause the way it is now is fucking stupid.

I learned the existence of this game like 72 hours ago. Gave it a try. Man.
I had high hopes for DUST 514 but PS2 just wins it. On my server we didn't have any real bug and the fights are constant. I had some optimization issues (screen flickering because of bad memory handling) but that's it.
There's even a really neat video feature that let's you record with no framerate drop whatsoever.

Shields should be breachable, every fucking base attack I've done is like re-enacting Starwars Episode 1 with the battle on Naboo where everyone just fucking shoots at the shield all day fucking long, then they decide to send the troops in and they get fucking slaughtered by the shitloads of ordinance inside the shields

Last night a friend and I were in a really empty place and we went on to capture a little outpost thing and then got to a big amp station as I guess they're called.
Now we blew up all the generators, went inside and blew up the one guarding the spawn thing in the center, then destroyed that one. However, it just kept coming back.

B) Hide in the mountains/behind obstacles half a mile to a mile away taking potshots at enemies inside bases

VS and TR, more often than not, have equal recoil per shot.
TR shoots, more often than not, about one bullet per second faster than VS.
VS tends to have higher starting accuracy (a tighter cone of fire) by just a bit.

Posting here yet again because SoE support is shit and didn't know how to help.
My PS2 crashed to desktop after ~15 minutes of gameplay. After that, re-entering causes crash after a minute or so. The game itself runs fine, all on medium and stable 60 FPS no matter how big a fight. After crashing, Validating Game Files replaces 1-7mb worth of files.
Running on i-2500K (3,3GHz), 8GB DDR-3 RAM, Win7 64-bit and Geforce 560

No, nobody is getting good frames. Everybody has a cpu bottleneck at the moment and most people are averaging 30 or less fps in large battles.
It's just more noticeable with AMD because their processors are shittier.
People saying their frames are fine aren't actually looking, or their hardware is so over-the-top that they can afford to play at a bottleneck. Either way, the game isn't scaling with the hardware.
Logically, the difference in fps between low graphics settings and high should be pretty signifigant, but you'll find that during a large fight they remain exactly the same.
