The solution from HR is to have the entire department take training, excluding one of the worst abusers, Department head Steve Young, head of the lunchroom "gang." Steve Young's favourite method to harass employees is to run his hand noisily down their cubicle wall when passing and to have Phil and friends pile on with the same behavior, including other IT group leaders. One employee was bullied to the point of breakdown TWICE by these methods. He has been doing this kind of thing for TEN YEARS despite numerous complaints, including one to Director Bill Tucker THREE YEARS AGO! HR Refuses to acknowledge or deal with Steve's behavioral issues. Two other employees had breakdowns in Steve's gangland atmosphere and had to either go on leave or seek medical accommodation outside the department. Last year, Wes Hetherington introduced the method of using aerosols to "poison" employee workspaces that Steve wants to punish, based on his experiences in a previous job. The department literally reeked as Phil and his guys piled on. This caused the Ministry of Labour to come calling. Employees have transferred from the department because of respiratory issues and migraines from the use of sprays to harass. Steve doesn't recognize the humanity of people that aren't white, straight, and Christian --the department is rife with bigots in management positions-- and Director Bill Tucker b.tucker@tvdsb.on.ca doesn't give a shit about bullies.
