Are there any well-written novels or non-fiction books about, or involving, prostitutes? Being lonely, I find it a very interesting subject.

Whores For Gloria by William T. Vollman is probably a must-read for you. Lonely drunk Vietnam vet tries to create fantasies of a happy life's memories by talking to (and fucking) prostitutes. Not sure what else with any real focus on it. Celine kinda had a soft spot for whores in some of his stuff.

How about 'The Lady of the Camellias'? It's romantic bullshit but a nice read nonetheless. Also, 'Nana' by Emile Zola deals with prostitutes. But not in a very positive light. I mean, according to him, poor women tend to degeneracy, and that can ruin lots of lives.

>>2959502 Memories of my Melancholy Whores by Marquez. Platform by Michael Houellebeq or however you spell his name- I think it goes into sex tourism.

>>2959502 That picture makes me think of Nicola Six in London Fields. She's... kind of a prostitute. Or she lies about being one. Hard to tell.

"a Crime so Monstrous" is a non-fiction book on modern human slavery (trafficking) and, while not focused on prostitution, sex slavery is a major element.

This was ok. Kinda underwhelming to be honest, but then so were the times I slept with prostitutes.

I remember in Slaves of New York by Tama Janowitz at least one of the characters whores themselves out (arguably they all do, it's one of the central themes of the book - what will you do to stay in your home).

>>2959615 I think I understand the problem - you're not supposed to sleep with them, Anon, you're supposed to fuck them. and degrade them wherever possible

If you don't mind poetry, E. E. Cummings wrote a lot about them, and it was one of my favorite parts of this anthology of his I have.

William T. Vollman writes about whores all the time, but since he's intellectually dishonest, he pretends he just talks to them. He's as ugly as a box of smacked twats though, so you can't blame him for paying for it. I don't recommend his work, really, he's absolutely awful. Moll Flanders was a whore, so Moll Flanders.

I'm not sure if there's an english translation but "La novia oscura" by Laura Restrepo is about prostitutes, albeit in a different enviroment (Colombian's oil fields in the 70's.

DFW, David Foster Wallace, wrote a lot about his obsession with strangling prostitutes in Infinite Jest

>>2959531 I too highly recommend William T. Vollamnn >>2959579 Platform is good, but for the subject of prostitution WTV, I think, is unsurpassed >>2961257 >One of the things that I had to do occasionally while I was collecting information for that prostitute story, “Ladies and Red Lights” from The Rainbow Stories, was sit in a corner and pull down my pants and masturbate. I would pretend to do this while I was asking the prostitutes questions. Because otherwise, they were utterly afraid of me and utterly miserable, thinking I was a cop. -WTV in Paris Review interview

Mustang Ranch and its Women A great read. I would recommend it to anyone.

>>2962858 > sit in a corner and pull down my pants and masturbate. I would pretend to do this while I was asking the prostitutes questions. You don't think this is an example of the man's crippling intellectual dishonesty? he's not prepared to admit that he wanted to jerk it in front of a whore, so he makes up some nonsense about an interview so he can flog the whole thing to McSweeney's or The New Yorker on the installment plan and buy more hookers. He writes like a Mexican with crabs as well - no style, no skill no craft, just garbage.
