>>87506498 Depends on how you look at the term culture. The queue was symbolic, mostly to show Manchus victory over han Chinese, a cuck stamp if you will. The queue is the only Manchu "culture" that is forcibly imposed on the han populace, that's only applied to alive males that's not taoist or Confuciuist. Manchus adopted han literature and philosophy and pretty much everything else. Although Manchu was the de jure language of the empire, classical Chinese was still the most used language by the court. Manchu emperors adopted Chinese names and practices just like the dynasties before it.

There is in fact no clear history indicating that there was any such apparel in existence under the name Han Clothing..." Honestly, that's fucking sad.

>>87507087 Clothing is part of culture but not all of it. The qipao/cheongsam became popular during the early republic of China era, when China became a novelty and was introduced to the west. At that point the west mainly know China through the manchu, thus their appearances became the stereotype of China, ex. Fu Manchu. The Manchu customs are then engineered to fit the contemporary clothing design, and after the wealthy class of Shanghai wore it, the image became synposis with the image of China. The Vietnamese ao dai and the Mongolian clothing are also somewhat heavily influenced by the Manchu dress. Does that also say Manchus erased Vietnamese and Mongolian traditional culture? No.

I'm fairly sure there's plenty of artwork showing pre-Manchu clothing.

>>87507615 It's not nobody knows what it looks like, it's mostly because there's no popular support. The Chinese government didn't choose hanfu because 1. It's not well known globally. 2. Hanfu only represent the Hans, while the tangzhuang or whatever it's called is rather inclusive to most ethnic groups.
