HD 7850. I've almost decided to get this. (wanting to max out withcer 2 mainly) Great price, great performance. I'm mostly worried about the AMD drivers since I've always been an Nvidia user. Opinions?

Anyone?

bought a single HIS 7850 last week. the only problem i had was with catalyst control center, but i fixed it with a complete uninstall and reinstall

I have 2x 7950s and despite earlier claims the cards run great. No performance problems to speak off and crossfire scales really well (i've never had a crash ingame and im ocd to 1100). The only problem with ati atm is some people have the DX9 bug where you get a flashing artifact every now and then and it can be annoying.

>>31007034 Do you have the same card? How's performance?

6 min later 31007084 Anonymous
>>31007034 I had such a huge problem with crossfire and getting games to not lock up. Did an RMA of the cards, a new PSU, it still crashed when OCD. Turns out you have to turn off ULPS if you want to oc while crossfire. Wish someone fucking told me that earlier and I didnt have to waste a month trying to fix it.

>>31007052 >AMD doing wonders with the 7xxx drivers and crossfire >meanwhile I still can't overclock my 6950's because ULPS wont disable itself when I change the registry values God dammit. >>31007057 pic related. Once I figured out what CAP were scaling stopped being a problem, but still not being able to OC at all is annoying.

7 min later 31007111 Anonymous
>>31007084 >Turns out you have to turn off ULPS if you want to oc while crossfire. Yeah, too bad since I updated from 12.6 ULPS keeps saying it's enabled (and when I overclock anyone it freezes up in games).

Durr. If you want the best price/performance ratio, get it. Display driver wise, I've made some good and some bad experiences with AMD. All in all, I still think that both Nvidia and AMD drivers are pretty stable, apart from some occasional failures such as the flickering shadows with recent AMD drivers. I changed camps from AMD to Nvidia mainly due to bad AF in the 6xxx architecture and have stayed NV ever since, but that point is moot since 7xxx anyway. Pull the trigger. Can't go wrong with hardwareversand.de either.

>>31007111 >>31007101 Use TRIXX to disable ULPS without having to try to fuck around with the registry. It works perfectly, disable, restart and you're golden. (you have to do it every driver install though).

>>31007127 >Use trixx I appreciate you trying to help but believe me when I say I've spent several hours of constant work and trying different methods to get it off or let me OC without crashing. trixx reg editing ATIman uninstaller + fresh install precision the ASUS thing afterburner using CCC Nothing has worked. It worked fine on w7 until one day I decided to update from 12.6 to 12.11 I think. Since then I've "upgraded" to windows 8 and currently with 13.1 the problem still exists, I've filed reports and everything, no response or acknowledgment last time I checked.

OP here. I just realised the benchmarks I've been seeing are for the 2gb version of this card. How different could the performance be on the 1gb?

13 min later 31007217 Anonymous
>>31007158 In the case? Yes, antec 1200 does not disappoint. The card is kind of air starved because >Crossfire. used to be 45c and 75c at idle and load before I added the second card, respectively

13 min later 31007230 Anonymous
>>31007209 Not any different unless you're at a resolution above 1080p. Or playing skyrim with texture mods.

13 min later 31007233 Anonymous
>>31007209 What resoluton do you plan to use? 1680x1050 you won't notice. Anything higher you will.

14 min later 31007245 Anonymous
The 7850 draws a crazy small amount of power, for the performance.

15 min later 31007264 Anonymous
>>31007233 1680x1050 it is. Perfect.

Having 2GB of VRAM does have its advantages, but at this point in time there aren’t any games that can exploit this advantage at the common resolutions of 1920x1200, 1920x1080, or 1680x1050. It’s only once we get to 2560x1600 or similarly large Eyefinity resolutions that we see the 1GB 6950 fall behind its 2GB counterpart. I don't think much has changed texture resolution wise since that review in most games.

>>31007368 The 1.5GB model? FYI while it's showing 3GB of vram what's happening is it's all getting mirrored on the second card, so that 2.8 usage is 1.4GB. Still is above 1GB though.

Oh btw, I have an ancient 9600GT on my system. These new cards are huge aren't they? Is there a chance it won't fit my tower? Here's a shitty blurry picture of how much space the 9600GT uses.

23 min later 31007457 Anonymous
>>31007436 It'll fit, probably. If you're worried get the dimensions from the website you're buying it from and measure. worst case scenario is you have to take a saw to your case.
