alright you guys, 3rd time ever coming here for a question. this may be more /v/ related, but I fuckin' hate people on /v/, and I trust your judgement more.
So, I installed GTA 4 on steam. System Requirements Lab said I can run it at maximum settings.
so, i install it and shit, and it lags like a fucker. So, I turn down all the settings... and it still lags like a fucker.
should I burn the ISO to a disc and try playing it like that? would that help? any ideas?

It runs fine on an i3 2370M and HD7670M.
Getting ~30FPS on medium @768p.
~37FPS on high without shadows.

maybe 250 to 300 on the graphics card. if I need to replace my CPU, would this mean I'd also need to replace my motherboard, or do the higher scale CPU's fit the same?

It lags on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Getting shot at in MP by a helicopter causes the game to almost hang because of bullett impact textures.

I used to think this too until I played Max Payne 3. That game ran sooo smoothly on my "modest" hardware compared to GTA4 (Phenom x4 @ 3.8ghz; ATi 4850)

I tried it from Steam on my i7 920, gtx 275 build.
Game itself runs smoothly when doing nothing, just whenever I turn the camera/vehicle it lags like fuck.
Totally unplayable.

I have this game. Steam version as well.
I run it at 40-48 fps at high settings with no AA.
My specs are:
Phenom II x4 3.4ghz
8GB RAM
Nvidia 460 GTX
This game, along with a fully modded Morrowind and vanilla Oblivion at max settings, are the only games that ever dip under 60fps for me. Even crysis at max settings gets 60fps. It's just a poor port.
Only way to get better performance is to upgrade your CPU. It's a very CPU intensive game. Should upgrade your GPU as well.

On Crysis@Max I get 24-27fps at most, Athlon II x3 3.8GHz, 4GB 1600MHz, Overclocked HD6850.
