Hey /fit/. Need some advice. That's right, I've sunk /so low/ that I need medical advice from 4chan, since every fucking doctor I've been to doesn't seem to give a single shit about my problem! I know this board is mainly for fitness, but I'm hoping someone here is knowledgeable about the "health" portion as well. I've had persistent chest pains since last September, and nothing I seem to do can alleviate it. I'm a 28/f in okay-ish physical condition, I don't exercise but my job keeps me pretty active so I haven't reached lard-ass status despite being a lazy-as-fuck gamer when I'm not on the clock. The pain is bad pretty much all the time, but worse when I try to lay down (which, obviously, makes sleeping pretty must the worst thing ever). I'm at my wit's end and ready to blow my brains out to spare myself the constant pain I'm in. So ... what do?

1) Stretch. 2) Make a mountain of pillows so you can sleep while sitting. 3) Breathing exercises.

>>21004627 thanks douche canoe I'll get right on it. >>21004663 I pretty much just sleep in a chair but I'll research breathing exercises and stretching that might help, never thought of that. Anyone else?

You need to provide more details. What does the pain feel like? Where does it seem to originate? How is your posture?

>>21004843 been to emergency at the hospital twice. First doctor said it was heartburn, gave me antacids and told me to go home. Literally, said "Go home.". Second time, a different doctor schedualed and EKG and a echocardio at the clinic across town ... which I thought was weird. I went on the date he said he'd booked it, and the clinic said no such appointment had been booked. My family doctor pretty much won't see me, since he's some old Paki trenched in his cultures values and tries to slut-shame me for having an aborton. I went to a walk-in clinic and they took blood and did an EKG, but no one every called me back with the results. I tried calling but they said they didn't have anything on file for my tests. Kinda sounds like no one cares, right? And the pain started well after I got my job, I've had it for 6 years now. I work retail at nights, restocking. I run stairs and lift crap for 10 hours since we don't have a cargo elevator or skids with pumptrucks.

Take up Qi Gong and ask your teacher to help you specifically to open up your chest and torso. Practice opening and closing it. I guess the 5th and 6th exercises of the 8 Pieces of Brocade will help you very nicely.

>>21004880 it's right in the center of my chest. It's seems to be a stabbing pain most of the time, like someone has a knife between my ribs and is twisting it. I get dizzy sometimes, and on rare occasions the pain will extend into my shoulder and then down my arm, usually the left. My posture is pretty shitty imo, I hunch a lot. Especially on the computer.

>>21005006 You need to fix your posture, otherwise it remains a detrimental variable in this equation. Whether or not it will help too much, time may show. Here's a couple links. >http://www.t-nation.com/free_onlin e_article/most_recent/the_30_second _mobility_cure http://www.defrancostraining.com/as k_joe/archives/ask_joe_08-10-03.htm l >http://www.livestrong.com/article/ 340396-how-to-correct-kyphotic-post ure/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZMD gj7ohps I can't recommend much more than that, but I strongly recommend you work on it. Foam rolling helps too.

>>21005017 Try pulling back your shoulders and push your chest really outward. Curve your back and breathe in deeply filling your belly first then continue upwards til your lungs are full. This is "opening", very simplified. Then exhale thoroughly while rounding your back like a cat. Your shoulders move forward. Put your chin on the chest and imagine pulling your head and pelvis towards each other. This is "closing". Felling very slight strains is normal, but be careful. I don't know your precise condition. And fix your posture !

That normal? Or just because I've never done it before so I'm not used to it? Closing doesn't seem to give me any pain whatsoever, though.

>>21005006 Go see another doctor and ask them to check your lipid profile and to perform an ECG (they should really be able to do this at the clinic). Could possibly be angina pectoris, which given your age is unlikely but we don't know your other risk factors for CVD. Chronic pericarditis maybe works, but some of your symptoms are off. The fact that lying down makes it worse strongly suggests it could be GERD, with some irritation of your diaphragm. If you could somehow get your hands on a PPI like omeprazole and take that to see if your symptoms improved would be ideal, but you really need to look around for a doctor who will actually do shit for you. Sorry they've seemd so shit, brings the rest of us down. Good luck, and follow the shit about your posture etc.

>>21005471 The pain extending to your left shoulder/arm is concerning and sounds like some kind of angina. However based on this post it sounds more like you have some chronic inflammation in the cartilage that connects the ribs to the sternum. In both cases, call a useful doctor and follow up with any tests by calling the place to confirm. Don't just give up because people suck at their jobs. Call and double-check. If it's the latter cause, don't do any of these stupid, newage exercises or you could end up damaging the tissue worse.

>>21005471 Slight pain is normal if you aren't used to it. Your ribcage will likely be crushef and congested by your own weight because of your posture. It's like hanging a weight from your arm and then wondering why it's heavy and hurts. eanreak purpose

>>21005636 >strenuous exercises that could cause further damage Tell me, the last time you took pressure off of a part of your body, did it decrease said pressure on said area? (Obvious answer intentionally obvious.) Posture relieves excess and unnatural pressure, not increases it. To return her body to balance is a healthy and logical decision to make.
