Brown vs. White Rice, Sweet Potatos vs. Regular Potatoes, Organic vs. Conventional, “Clean” eating vs. Mixed diets... This is mostly down to taste preferences. The nutritional differences between the alternatives are neglible. Generally speaking, if you eat lots of the protein foods mentioned above, lots of vegetables, maybe supplement some vitamin D and fish oil your nutrients covered. >implying I don't follow the sticky religiously

Most white rice we consume is fortified with vitamins lost due to processing, it simply lacks the additional fibre found in brown rice. Indeed, the additional non-water-soluble fibre would make you feel more full in the long run, which is conducive to not overeating. However, OP doesn't have access to that shit since he's staying with Indian folk who probably eat Basmati or Jasmine.
