Front squats. How viable are they compared to back squats? And why?

Do both, they work different areas of your legs.

generally front squats are more difficult, however this is less to do with leg strength and more to do with the fact that the stabiliser muscles are different; front squats depend a lot more on your abs for stability.

front squats = more natural spine position self-correcting form, to an extent more core activation no idea why they aren't more popular. most people get dissuaded by the collar bone pain. it takes a while, but front squats just feel right. hard to explain

>>17006529 Seeing as you can never actually carry enough weight to get anything out of a goblet squat, I think its safe to say no

Atg front squats are the best

>>17006529 They're pretty much front squats -1 If you're a beginner or something and can do the same weight with both, then they're pretty interchangeable. Once you start to ramp up the weight though, your arms aren't going to be able to support what the rest of your body can, so they fall behind

the only thing one has to worry about when it comes to front squats is this: your best front squat should be 85-90% of your best back squat, same depth.

how come i never see a thread on step ups? they're the perfect exercise to start a beginner on. low risk of injury perfectly symmetrical workload easy to learn if i started all over again i would do step ups for a month before starting squats.

I switched out back squats with front squats on SS because my posture is shit (lordosis). the bar hurting and difficulty breathing go away after a bit. I think it's definitely been better for me.

Goblet squats are great if all the barbells are being used ( fucking chest mondays), and your gym have large DB's (40-55kgs). Coupled with lunges, you've got yourself a squat-free, machine-free leg workout. Feelsgoodman.
