Dear /b/, I'm an 18 year old. i feel im taking the perfect steps towards alcoholism. Well, frankly speaking I feel im way past that point. I've drank at least 6 shots a day since i was about 14. I know i need help... Could you guys please give me some pointers on quitting? Or give some insight about AA. i just know at this point I wont see 30. Please, /b/...

In all honesty, what worked for me was drinking extremely hard during a party until I made myself incredibly sick. I had a similar habit to yours in college, and now I can't even stand the smell of alcoholic drinks.

Just stop. There are probably health benefits from it. I never understood the mentality of being an addict. If I am doing something too much and stopping it will somehow give me a positive benefit, I stop it dead. You have no will power, you are weak.

when i first started drinking I began drinking heavily for a few weeks. One day I just stopped. Now i have beer once in a while during movies with friends but im not afraid to drink the way i was before. as for 4 years of drinking constantly not sure how bad the physical addiction is, my advice is to get it all out of the house. If you live in american you cannot buy alcohol, if you have a fake ID cut it up. make it so the only way to get alcohol is to have friends buy it for you, then tell all your friends you want to quit and you seriously need their help. Tell them not to let you have any of theirs for a select period of time, and tell them that when that period of time is up (Assuming you want to drink like a regular person) to only start you off with one beer or such.

OP, (i'm saying this as a friend) DO NOT get involved with any 12 step programs! They will teach you to hate yourself, to make you think you're powerless, that the only way to get better is through submission and obeying an infallible authority. As a man forced to do a 12 step program (AA) it was misery, it made me feel like a weak sheep. If you want real help, seek out an organization like SOS (Secular Organization for Sobriety) or a local support group, ones that rely on each other for support and help. Good luck, OP, wishing you the best

>>425020343 aa is a joke. Tip from future you... don't drink and drive. This may sound like b.s. to you but I lost the urge to drink every day after an acid trip. So my advice is to dose and trip your balls off.

>>425022834 I'm in the same boat OP, I drink everyday, usually I end up passing out in the early morning and you cant wake me up for shit. You have to quit all access to it, or else you can't do it. AA is good and those groups really help, but my advice is, move out for 2 months (The least ammount of time you can when moving into an appartment) the way to do it is cut all access... I've tried many times.

I feel you /b/ro, I quit a few months ago. I was doing 10 shots a night about 3-4 days a week. The way I did it was cold turkey. The hardest part for me was sleeping correctly, but after about a week I felt much better, and a month I didn't even think about alcohol much anymore.

>>425022194 This guy is probably right. AA works for a certain type of person. If you have only been drinking during your teenage years, this person is probably not you. It is good you want to quit. But what negative impact has alcoholism had on you? It's probably a lot less than people at AA. You haven't given a reason to need to drink. If it's just dependency that started with teenage curiosity, then you should be able to quit.
