>>18294213 Here's some lore for your brain: Shortly after Connery's retirement from the Presidency, a summit was held by a group known only as Business Forward. A private alliance between the CEOs of the solar system's largest corporations, Business Forward was created with the intention of navigating the increasingly treacherous waters of Terran Republic restrictions on private business. Though not by any means totalitarian, the Republic had progressively been involving itself more and more in the private sector, heightening standards and intervening in business practices, all—it assured its citizens—in the interest of the people. At this summit, the members of Business Forward agreed it was in their best interest to monitor the activity of former President Connery in order to benefit from his explorations. [...] In order to not only force Connery's hand into requiring their help for his mission but also to create an entity capable of resisting the Terran Republic's mounting pressure on private businesses, Business Forward negotiated backroom deals with major banks, private security firms, and powerful labor unions across the solar system. This multi-industry consortium—dubbing themselves the New Conglomerate—would prove to be very effective in their aims, though not in a way they would expect. [...] Within six months, an increasingly frustrated population gave birth to an insurgency movement; first supplies and weapons began to go missing, and eventually deadly fighting broke out between the mercenary and civilian labor forces of the New Conglomerate and some of the Terran Republic military patrols tasked with the order and security of the fleet.

TR are only questionable on Auraxis itself (and that part doesn't even have contact to the home world anymore), and even then have the goal of reuniting the empires so they can survive easier and not spend all their time shooting each other like assholes. VS believe the human form can be perfected and improved through research and technology, and were content to fuck about with alien artifacts on their own until TR wanted them to rejoin and NC declared war on them because HURR CAN'T HAVE GENE SPLICING FOR SCIENCE. NC are... a bunch of FREEDUM FIGHTERS and mercenaries, also everyone who doesn't fit the other two factions, fighting for "FREEDOM" that they're not entirely sure what it is but it's what the suits tell them to fight for so they do. The NC used this as a launching point for their FREEDUM campaign, and then there was the questionable explosion of the negotiations ship that killed the top NC and TR including God-Emperor guy, letting General Ripper take over the TR and go full Nazi in a "give an inch, get a mile" deal.

Biggest problem for me in Planetside 2 is not that are no "fair fights" When it comes to shooters, there is one specific thing I want. It breaks the game if it is not there. Even sides. Outnumbering the enemy is boring because you don't get to fight anymore. Being outnumbered is not fun because you don't have a chance. Planetside 2 never, never has even sides.

I don't crash every 5 minutes now. Base capture are more fun and there is actually stuff to destroy like generators. A ton of new certs. Game is starting to get really good. I just wish we had sanctuary like in ps1 and that you could totally kick an other faction of a continent. In PS1, fights followed lattice lines and all of the terrain along them. In PS2, due to there being so many bases and outposts, players are heavily disseminated across any given continent. Both were made by companies with a questionable at best track record, yet in early stages of beta, /v/ / /vg/ had quite a bit of fun with them. However, as it drew closer and closer to release, both went steadily downhill in an attempt to become more like the Cowwadoodies and Battlefields of the modern era, and the constant community interaction of the beta (Todd's wonky mouth, the Shazbowl, Higby and the rest fucking around in game, etc) dried up almost immediately for T:A and more than likely will for PS2. Everyone is crying over f2p, and tribes and what not. Weapons are sidegrades. You pick one you like (after testing which is coming soon) and then you use it. So weapons costing more is okay. As far as I know, exp rate has gone up too and the price of attachments have gone down. So what if it costs a bit of playtime for a new weapon? Live with it, that's what F2P is. you can get it yourself or you can pay for the luxury of having it faster. >>18311476 No, because if I'm trying to keep a gun centered and the only thing fighting me is upward kick, I respond by constantly trying to point it straight ahead. When I stop firing, this doesn't make me suddenly point it at the floor. Grab your right wrist and try to lift up your right arm. Use your left hand to keep it steady. Then stop lifting. Do you suddenly yank your arm down when you stop lifting? No, because you know when the lift is going to stop--as you do with a gun, because you're also actively releasing the trigger.

At the end of those three seconds, my aim is still on-target. I've only missed due to bloom, not being off. I think you guys are mistaking 'realism' for 'functionality'. The only part realism takes place in is when the gun's recoil changes your view position. Everything after that is a functionality issue. The player moves the camera because he is controlling the head/arms, but the camera is not limited by realism. The system right now is a functionality issue because it overrides the player's camera control.

>>18313769 Well, I think that SOE, and the general MMORPG market in general, is beginning to realize that no game can ever unseat WoW just by being a clone of it. It has to be the next big innovator, actually changing the genre and bringing something to the table worthwhile enough for people to switch over from WoW. For example, a Western MMO with TERA-style combat I think could be massively successful if it had name recognition and marketing behind it. Same could be said for a sandbox MMO, which the genre drastically needs. We already know for a fact that EQ3 is a sandbox, so that alone makes it drastically different from WoW. I think EQ3 has the potential to be the next big thing if they don't fuck it up.

My post was based off of taking out lone tanks, or 1-2 tanks, rather than entire zergs. The best thing to do when your enemy has a zerg is to just completely ignore the zerg and go recap the bases once they leave, because they're stupid and they don't leave a single person behind to defend them. A friend of mine and I actually played this game with a VS zerg once on Indar where they were going hex-to-hex capping bases, then we would go cap them once they left, and they would just follow us around in a circle. In the meanwhile we retook everything in the South, including Allatum & West Highlands, so they were completely cut-off, and their zerg just gradually split up and got taken out.

Sup bros, got into the beta last night and managed to play today before the servers went down. Was just wondering how far the F2P concept goes - is it (to use comparisons) like League of Legends, where everything is available to you, you can simply pay for it to get x or y quicker; or are there limitations that someone who never pays can never receive? Game seems pretty cool, though. Seems I need a lot of bullets to kill someone, though, but I'll get used to it.

>>18318753 I know you're being retarded on purpose but I'm gonna treat this seriously for the benefit of well-meaning but confused anons. ANTs were slow, unarmed, unarmored busses that had to drive to a warpgate and sit around collecting magical nanite energy, then drive back to a base and squirt that nanite energy into a giant tank which would use this shit to automatically repair and power base defenses and other important things, without which a base would cease functioning and become very difficult to defend. This meant you could actually siege a base by draining its nanite supplies provided you could stop ANTs getting in and out. A Lodestar was a big, lumbering airbus which could fly other vehicles, including the ANT, to and fro. Resupply missions were time-consuming due to the distances and rate at which nanites transferred both in and out, and the ANT / Lodestar were completely defenseless while en route. It was very necessary to arrange escorts and clear space for them, and protect them while they did their thing in base.

>>18322462 Because ESFs are such a large target in the sky who can't possibly do things like fly low or use flares or afterburn away from rockets or spin in circles to shake missiles with bad turning radii or divebomb the ground and pull up at the last moment to splash them into the dirt or outdistance the rocket or kill the HA who fired it or or or or or

>>18322824 Libs definitely need to be more than four AA missiles, man. I say this as an HA. Due to the way rendering distance and shots work, if they can't see me, they can't actually damage me; flying at 1000m and bombarding the general direction of a base doesn't do anything that I recall. If they're close enough to see me, they're close enough to be locked on, and even if they're just out of range, I've dumbfired my Grounder into orbiting Libs easily enough.

>>18322824 I definitely agree with increase turret HP. An ESF or a Lib should never, ever be able to sit there and just destroy a AA turret before the AA turret kills them. That is one of the most retarded game-designs I have ever heard of. You know what should destroy AA turrets? Not fucking air, that's for sure. Armor/infantry on the ground should be the ones who take them out. And you know what's even more bullshit? That Libs can now seem to hover out of lock-on range but still can see infantry on the ground, so they can just kill the fuck out of everyone and there's literally nothing you can do about it.

PS1 may not have had the best shooting mechanics for an FPS at the time, but it did almost EVERYTHING ELSE better than PS2. PS2 is forgetting everything that PS1 did great and dropping all of it in favor of trying to just become BF3 with bigger maps and more players. If all you want is more BF3 then go play fucking BF3. Some of us were hoping for the return of a truly great gaming experience, not another watered down wannabe call of duty shitfest. It's not hard to understand why lovers of PS1 (like myself) are upset with where PS2 is ending up.

>>18323147 Well, that's when you'd use flak on them. No problem using specialized infantry AA (MAX) against specialized AG aircraft (Libs) when AA rockets aren't useful due to a few outranging incidents. Of course, the ESF's role as an AIR SUPERIORITY FIGHTER should be worrying about keeping the air clear. If a Lib is bombing your base, allied ESFs should be blowing it up, not chasing MBTs.

>>18323015 Libs have decoy flares. That means they have ways to avoid being hit by AA-lock-on missiles, which means it would effectively take 5 missiles to destroy a Lib instead of 4, even 6-7 missiles factoring in reduced CD on decoy flares and missile launcher reload time. If a missile is locking on to you, you should either have to run away, or kill the HA locking onto you. Or use decoy flares. As it is currently Libs can just sit there and soak up the AA missiles no problem because they do like 1/6th of their HP.

>>18323419 Yeah, but Libs are slow-moving buses who can't do any of the neat evasive bullshit that make even non-Flare ESFs practically immune to HAs anyhow. HAs are common enough that there should be enough firing AAs up at them or even just dumbfire shit. And again, flak and ESFs chasing it down. I think you may be underestimating how quickly a Lib will go down if even two AA HAs are looking at it. Faster than an MBT, that's for sure.

>>18315901 What happened is this. 1. Real soldiers look down the sights of their weapon in order to fire accurately. 2. Games wanted to emulate this mechanic for the sake of immersion. 3. Real-life rifle engagement distances don't make for fun level design and are larger than most engines and designers can handle. 4. Games need a reason to use iron sights, so they make the weapon highly inaccurate when not aiming down the sights. 5. Cone of fire still exists because it's more gameplay-conducive than an accurate, wandering crosshair. Red Orchestra does this, but lacking the pointing reflex of a human being it makes close-range fighting intensely frustrating.
