It's possible to figure out, but it's more complicated than using a single formula.

>>6002241 *cough* it's not that much harder *cough* It's mostly just knowing your metals like iron rusts, aluminum doesn't like to be sanded, titanium squeaks, etc, etc and knowing your application so that you can calculate how thin the walls have to be made, how much of the material you need so it doesn't just snap, etc. except for buckling. buckling is hard.
