lookit this game. its a simulation of predators and preys http://ccl.northwestern.edu/netlogo /models/WolfSheepPredation are there any games like this but more ellaborate? maybe more species, maybe following instead of random walk

I'm programming one for fun, it's very simple and doesn't even graphics one yet. Getting nice emergent behaviours though.

any sources/books about simulations like these? imagine building something like this, that lets things evolve from simple hunter / prey model, into something with a primitive society, with links of trust, fractions, politics, and whatnot. oh god, oh god, this would be like sims but better

I used a program in my genetics class which let you see how allele frequencies change over any period of time in speckled moths depending on things like weather conditions, tree color, amount of trees, size of area, shit like that. But you have to pay like $6 to use it.

Lotka-Volterra Pred-Prey model would be a good place to start if you want to understand pred-prey dynamics. One equation describes the growth of the prey population subject to its interaction with the predator popn and vice versa for the predator popn. It's not meant to be realistic, but captures the basic essence of how populations would interact.

11 hours later 5787069 Anonymous
>>5787044 It's entirely web-based and you had to do it when signing up for the class. There was no way around it.

found a setting where wolves and sheep survive but populations swing absolutely wild.. pretty cool

12 hours later 5787194 Anonymous
>>5787096 In reality this wouldn't happen, as there would be some density dependent function which further reduces their population growth at very low numbers.(eg allee effects) Just keep in mind that it's a model, not reality.

It's interesting how having the wolves breed more actually makes them much more likely to go extinct.

If you leave everything at initial values and turn on grass then it finds equilibrium. I also managed an equilibrium with the settings in pic.

stupid question coming through just wondering for any environmentalists and hippies, extinction is as natural as evolution, it comes hand in hand, why is everyone trying to preserve things the way they are instead of embracing annihilation like earth has experienced over its lifetime?
