Ohai /sci/, which discipline is, in your personal opinion, the best to study? There are so many disciplines that I don't know which one I would choose. Discuss. Pic unrelated.

Maths. Don't ask me which field of maths because I don't do maths. But maths is the best thing to study. Maths and math-style problem solving is what is actually satisfying about science.

Pron, for happiness. Especially extreme pron.

>>5030633 What are you doing then? And why?

>>5030646 I did chemistry. Because I got in to do natural sciences but wasn't good enough to continue with physics.

>>5030650 Okay. My only problem with math would be the same as yours with physics: I would guess I am smart, but not that genius to really be a maths-student.

Study what you're good at and what you enjoy.

>>5030657 But the only reason I wasn't good enough to do physics was because I was at the best university in the country. I could have easily studied physics or maths but I thought I should do what I was best at and get the prestige of going to the best and most difficult university rather than doing what I liked best at a pretty good university. I don't think maths is necessarily a difficult subject unless you're studying somewhere difficult. I mean they teach maths at universities where most of the students are utterly mediocre in therms of the general population, which basically means they're stupid, and a set proportion of them manage to get A grades, so it must be possible. at least for an undergrad degree.

Biology to me is very interesting, I'd like to research into the origins of life and the physiology of aging. If I was exceptional at Maths I'd might have went into Physics.

Biochemistry, life is ridiculously complex and awesome.

Best as in interesting, or best as in putting food on the table?

Studying comp sci/maths. I think physics is the god-tier discipline that is a maximal element in the by awesomeness partially ordered set of disciplines. This is because physics is >challenging >applicable >has that 'mystery' thing to it I wish I had gone into physics. inb4 cs is for ppl 2dumb 4physics hehe^^ xD

Physics major personally, so that's what my vote's going to. It's intellectually stimulating (read: hard as fuck), applicable to all areas of life (and can lead to a career in pretty much anything you want it to), and there remains much still to be discovered. Honestly, it's the wide selection of career possibilities that drove me to it over chemistry, (which I love and am minoring in) as I still have no idea what I want to do with my life.

Oh, and OP just choose the one you want to study. I dont understand why you'd even want to study science if you dont have any passion for a subject. You're going to get a wealth of different opinions which will eventually dissolve into an argument (intended?), because no science is better than others. My personal opinion is Biology; science should look to advance human life and Biology does this best. I also find Chemistry incredibly interesting and useful for humanity's advancement, as do I with Engineering. I dont regard Maths as a science, I regard it as the most powerful tool we have for explaining anything in the universe. However, I think half of Physics is just about as useful as philosophy and is generally interesting but a complete waste as an academic pursuit as I dont see them as at all useful. No doubt someone will completely disagree with me on that; inter-field opinions never correlate. Just do what you want to do. However, asking this question sort of gives me an undeserving clueless opinion of you and part of me wants to point you in the direction of social sciences... cos im a cunt, like.
