How hard would it be to live in a cave, assuming you have other ameneties of city life available to you? I live in Montreal, and there's a big mountain in the middle of town. (hence Montreal -- Mont. Royal!) I've heard of some hobos squatting in a small cave near a large cathedral, where they even had basic furniture and some way of generating power. If I could find a similar cave or grotto or otherwise secluded area to camp in, would it be difficult to convert into a useful living space? I'm not talking tile floors and central air, but having a warm shelter where I can rest, work and maybe even play

If you found some way to hide the entrance/lock it/protect it from being discovered by random passersby, I imagine it could be possible and quite comfy.

>>7005527 Actually it wouldn't really be that hard. You wouldn't even really need anything from the city if you grew and hunted your own food. Use a rain barrel and purify the water to drink. Also you could build an entrance to your cave so you nothing gets in or out, just make sure nothing is in it first like wildlife or another person(hobo, some sadists slaves ,etc).

>>7005548 Yeah, that's something I'd want to avoid. I don't want a couple of horny teenagers or an enterprising bum to stumble in and then jack whatever shit I might-ve stashed there. Or worse, take the place over and squat there themselves. If it's just a hole in the side of a hill, it'd probably need a wall built. That sort of construction would probably attract the wrong sorts of attention. >>7005587 The point is to not have to hunt/grow food, since that's a lot harder than you think. And also doesn't allow you to eat chocolate every week

>>7005601 True. And if nothing else, some thick branches and stuff might make a decent-ish building material, like if I wanna try my hand at making a shitty clay wall or something. Hell, maybe if I actually end up doing this I could actually make it nice over time -- make it my lifelong project, pass it down to the kids >Kids. KIDS. FUCKIN KIDS GET OVER HERE. Today, we're seeing granddaddy's stash on the mountain" >their feels when showing them a dirty hole in the ground full of survival gear and tubs of decade-old M&Ms

I suppose it wouldn't be too hard... after all, there are hundreds of millions of people who live in mud/hay/aluminum huts and shanties or on the street or in the rainforest and shit. As far as generating power, there are lots of solar options. Lamps (d light) and chargers are a def yes. You could get a gas burning stove for cooking. For heat, I'm not sure. I guess you'd need a door. For protection, get a dog.
