I think it's more than "just a rumor". When that first image of Equestria Girls hit the net, everyone was lik "fake, just a rumor". A few days later EQD posts a HQ version of the image along with the Trixie art they "received in their mailboxes". This image dates back from about the same time, but now again EQD posts it in higher quality + an alternate version. EQD knows more than they let on, they have prior knowledge about EG and S4. In exchange for scoops like this they've become a part of Hasbro's hype machine. Time will prove I'm right.
