The Canterlot Wedding was more of a "suggestion" by Hasbro, and the writers decided to go with it.
Really, if there's any concern that Hasbro is holding the reigns too tight on the show, it's just because the writers are trying to appease them so they can keep a lot of the freedom they currently have and can implement things their own way a little easier.

This is why you aren't liked. You jump to conclusions on everything and almost blindly defend the decisions of the staff, simply because they are the staff.
No one said it was a vendetta against the fans that caused this, they would have to be idiots to believe that when it's obvious that this has been a long planned thing.
Could it be possible that the writers wanted this? Maybe, we don't know for sure exactly what caused this to come about.
What we do know however is that this ISN'T being handled with the care that it should be.
A major character is about to change, get a huge responsibility and they are shoving it into 22 minutes, over half of which will be dedicated to the plot of the episode, which barely has anything to actually do with the Coronation.
The plot of this episode will be caused by the knowledge of it yes, but everything in it is pretty much there to show Twilight that her Destiny isn't the only one that is important.
That's nice and all, but it still doesn't emphasis the fact that Twilight is going to change and with little to no fanfare at that.
And why is it so hard to believe that the writers are the ones that planned this? Because Status Quo.
Remember that thing that Hasbro said? "We want the episodes to be watched in any order."
It's why the writers aren't allowed to make a continuous story, or make big changes.
The only way they can, is with Hasbro's permission, or their demanding.
And since this is to shove a toy...

There are two possibilities I will give this.
1. This was the writers plan, they had this in mind over the vacation that was Season 2's air time and started working towards the goal of this. They let Hasbro know about it to make sure that they could make such a momentous change to the series and to give them plenty of time to start making toys for Alicorn Twilight.
HOWEVER, Hasbro only orders 13 episodes for season 3, cutting the planned build up and utterly gutting the season finale. The writers, now locked into the storyline have to just deal with it.
2. Hasbro has finally realized that MLP is on the raise as a brand and that they can start to dictate to the staff of the show what they want out of it and make maximum profits. Since they are a toy company and it is what they want.
"What do little girls like? Well they like to be princesses. So let's make the main character a Princess, that way they will relate to her better."
I refuse to believe that Meghan, would say that quote of her own volition. No matter what. She is a nerd, she was into D&D as a kid and knows personally how fucking wrong that quote is.

No, I do believe that Hasbro can dictate that. She has to get permission from them to do an interview.
They would easily be able to tell her the kinds of things to say to make sure to keep up the image that they want.
I've seen enough of it from PR people that come forward for having to say things in the name of their company that go against their moral fiber.
