How do we stop this, /lit/?
This kind of self-imposed discredibility which trivializes issues and deprives them of any meaning, leaving those who are still concerned air talking. It's much more older than this tweet, obviously. The Soviets and other authoritarian regimes used to laugh off sad truths and Americans are doing the same right now. Why is it so that whenever a work (book, essay, film, joke, etc.) has been made on a subject, we go "ok, that's been talked about, now we can ignore it". Or irony, typified by "the hipster", where something "is ok because it's ironic". Where does this passivity stem from?

Actually, it isn't a joke. In a sense, both the nonconfirmation and the nondenial are true, because while this is the CIA's first tweet with their official Twitter account, it's of course true that they've used Twitter for their own purposes.
It's presented like a joke, and if you don't think too much about it, you laugh. But it's actually dead serious.
Which is quite witty, I'll admit.
