I've noticed that all of the big authors who make mad money are just authors. If I wrote a book, and say placed between the chapters and artful but irrelevant piece of poetry, could this work out well?

>>4004052 By irrelevant I meant unrelated to the story. Like the poem would be able to stand alone as a sensible thing, and the story doesn't need the poem.

What do you mean, ">just authors"?

>>4004061 As in, famous writers who are alive today and rich (King, Patterson, ETC) are authors. None of them have branched off into poetry. Since I like writing but there is no money in poetry, I hope to become a successful author. But why do these authors only really write books?

>>4004092 Because there's more of an audience for novelists. Why not write both and hone in both practices?

>>4004117 SO try to become a successful author and make a good living off of it while writing poetry as a hobby?

>>4004092 Nothing is stopping you from doing something new. Hell, I think we're currently on the cusp of something new actually, PoMo taking on different forms. I say go for it.

>>4004122 Do you really need someone to tell you how to live your life? This isn't a hard decision. If you write something and you want to get it published, try and get it published.

>>4004130 Really? Do people legitimately think this is a good idea? If you guys could keep this alive for a couple of hours, I have to go somewhere. Feel free to contribute more opinions.

>>4004092 king has a couple poems out there i'm pretty sure

>>4004052 It'd probably be a good idea to have the poems be at least thematically related to the story. I'd be pretty annoyed if random poetry was in the middle of my novel and it didn't make a holistic work.

>>4004144 *and by my novel i mean one i bought, not one i wrote

>>4004144 Maybe with a similar theme to the novel, but not related to characters or events in the novel. Something that creates similar thoughts, but does not take away from the story...? >>4004142 He does. He even made at least one of them into the basis for one of his characters, but he is known as an author. Poetry was a short phase he had in college, unless he secretly writes poetry now.

Read 1984 and you will never doubt the power of poetry within a novel again.

>>4004185 Actually does make sense now, but can poetry be a predominant part of a novel?
