4chan language thread. here we can discuss the idioms of the site. personally, i find it unbelievably childish when people retort with this "HURR DURR" nonsense.. also, i think that >implying has caused me to think of "greentext" whenever i read "imply/implying/implication" in any literature. what have you guys got?

i pretty much hate every 4chan convention and think /lit/ would be better off divorced from this place. except then it'd die from lack of activity.

>HURR IMPLYING DURR sorry My friends used "derp" in regular conversation—though that's more of a reddit thing I suppose—but it's particularly weird because they were all activists and you probably know where "herp derp" comes from. I've thought in greentext before and was always subsequently ashamed of myself. I understand that "feels" are cancerous (another 4chan word) but I'm kind of partial to them nonetheless, probably because no gf.

I consistently find it hilarious that halfway intelligent conversations on 4chan still take the form of shit slinging contests.

"HURR DURR" and "derp" just remind me of when the less original kids would try to be funny in middle school. I think Reddit and the growing popularity of WEED PRIDE are partly responsible for the resurgence.

>>2959302 I used to say derp because of South Park but that was a long time ago.

I think it's funny and interesting. I come here for laughs and silly conversation. I don't expect anyone to have a serious conversation, but when it occurs I'm more than happy to keep contributing. Do I use these words in real life? Yes, but only because I find them hilarious. Especially fond of using "HURR DURR" when a friend does something so dumb I question their sanity/intelligence. Am I murdering the English language just a bit when I do so? Sure, but I could care less, after all it is my second language and for all I care and know it's a bastardized language anyhow, stealing and borrowing grammar and vocabulary from all over. As I once saw it put here, though I'm sure it's been said elsewhere first: "English finds other languages in dark alleys, beats them up, and steals loose grammar and vocabulary from their pockets." Or something along those lines. Either way, maybe you should stop being so anal about the situation, and just accept that language is an ever changing and evolving living thing. We must get used to the changes, or live in a basement for the rest of our lives. I for one, enjoy the outside and going "HURR DURR" when my friends are idiots. tl;dr why do you care? english is a bastard anyhow. get over it.

>implying >hurr & variations >derp & variations >Verb/noun/adjective + Fag (eg- Newfag, tripfag, /lit/fag) These come immediately to mind

>>2959115 I have never used an idiom or 'meme' and not immediately hated myself for doing so. I mean, hearing other people do it is annoying, both in the flesh and here, but I guess I can't do anything about it but withdrawing from all human contact. oh thank fucking christ for tulpae, I am out of here

>>2959317 Exactly. People who watch South Park are the same type of people who use that shit.
