Hey, folks. Every month I set myself a topic to study, generally over a period of two weeks. At the end of the period, I write a long essay on the subject. This is in addition to my higher education, just as a means by which to improve my general knowledge and study skills. This month's topic, which I'm about to begin with, is 'the formation of the USA' - a subject I'm mostly ignorant of, as many Brits are. I use history textbooks and the internet for a contextual framework, but I like to back that up with primary sources. So, what are the absolute 'must reads' relevant to the formation of the USA? And if there are any truly brilliant historical works on the matter, I could use those too. Thanks a lot!

A People's History of the U.S. by Howard Zinn. This is a very interesting idea, OP. How old are you?

I would recommend making it a month and getting informed on it in depth. But great idea OP, congrats etc

If you have no topic for next month could you do it on the subject of mathematics as a for of art? I'd feel better knowing at least one non math major cared enough to delve into the art of mathematics (whether you enjoy it or not). Polite sage for off-topic.

Jesus Christ, OP. So you go to uni and write pointless essays on top, you do know about bars, don't you? When you're not studying you are supposed to be out getting laid, getting drunk/high, and enjoying yourself.
