/lgbt/, I'm in need of some input, I'm a 19 y/o trans female, and I've done everything short of a bottom surgery. I pass pretty well, as I've been on hormones for about a year. Though recently, shit's kinda hit the fan for me, and I don't know what to do with my life. So, I spoke to a few recruiters, and the only branch that might take me is the Army. If I get in, I have to essentially renounce any progress I've made. No hormones for potentially a year, and doing everything with the men. I guess what I'm asking is, is it worth it?

Come on, you know it's a bad idea...

>>6013955 That's a horrible idea. Don't make life even more miserable for yourself. Like, I don't see how you can say you are trans and then want to go do something that's going to constantly be reminding you that you're a "guy".

>>6013994 I have no direction, no assets, literally nothing but being relatively intelligent, and decent physical condition. I see it as, yeah shit is gonna succ so hard for a year but then it'll get better, and ill have some semblance of a future. I feel like it's this or the streets.

>>6013955 You can't be on hrt while you're serving without anyone having to know?

>>6014020 OP here, I can get a medical waiver for them. However, I can't take them during basic training (8 weeks), and most likely will not be able to during advanced individual training (which can be as long as 8 months depending on career.)

>>6013955 Soooo, your gonna get raped..... Not kidding. They rape a lot of the girls that go in there. You are just asking for it. Then like most the girls i know. You're gonna be all. No he had to do it. And try to cover up the rape just so you can feel like your "just one of the boy's "

Literally wait a month and a half then apply as a trans woman...

>>6014036 That's not something that had crossed my mind, but it's a fair assessment. I'm sure I'll be singled out in a lot more ways than one; It's going to be psychologically jarring, for sure. But I really can't see any other thing I can do :/

>>6014016 Even working retail or food service would be better for you.

>>6014051 are you talking about the policy changes that are coming? Yeah I'm hoping that happens, it'd be a lot easier on me. It will take time to implement though, it's not an immediate shift.

>>6014066 I'd like to aspire to something a little more prestigious. Besides, I'd make double what I made there...

35 min later 6014088 Anonymous
>>6014074 The military is not prestigious, stop swallowing that patriotic propaganda. I know you're in a funk, but seriously, being in the military is not good for you. It's not good for anyone, but especially not mtf trans.

>>6014068 It's a lift on their ban on trans persons. If you are not banned, then restricting your access to medication specific to your trans status would be equivalent to restricting the access to appropriate medication for anyone else with medical needs that do not disqualify them from service - against policy and procedure, and a violation of your rights as an employee.

>>6013955 Hi, Emily

>>6013955 Honestly it depends on what your end goals are. I mean you have to ask yourself, do you come from nothing and have little opportunity where you are now? Then yes, this might be something for you to consider. But I really want to know what you want to get out of it. Essentially you'll be signing up for between 4 and 6 years and its best if you set some sort of goal before you enter. Are you doing it for education? Use TA while in, and save the Post 9/11 for after you get out, plus taking advantage of CLEP/DSST etc. is a smart way to tackling your education if its your goal as an example. I could go on, but for me it was worth it, however I am not trans.

>>6014110 Believe me, it's a basic human right to feel okay in ones' skin, but to them i'm a dude because I have a dick. Also no recruits get meds during basic unless their deemed 'medically necessary' by the head doctor on base. I'm not sure if anyone would sympathize with me.

>>6014129 What kinda tranny are you to seriously be okay being taken off your hormones? Have you ever been off your hormones for an extended period where very stressful shit is happening to you before? You're going to feel worse, my friend.

>>6014127 I think I'd like to do law enforcement or the FBI, and right now I'm apathetic towards higher education. I found out you can use military experience to make yourself a better candidate for these things,"veterans preference" right? so there is that.

49 min later 6014171 Akaka
>>6014129 It's deemed medically necessary by every body of medicine in your country. Yes, they will "sympathize".

>>6014158 I've heard it's like drug withdrawal, and I really hate to think about going through male puberty again. but I'm trying to secure a future where i can get them again, and maybe get my surgery done. if that means a limited time without them than so be it.

>>6014184 Why don't you just wait like >>6014110 told you to? Seriously, just go get any job to support yourself for a while, and wait.

55 min later 6014200 Anonymous
>>6014189 I think I will, but I'm still getting all the shit together for when the time comes. I'm worried they might not lift the ban though. So I'm also preparing for the worst.
