I'm crushing on my college professor, really damn hard. He's also a student at my university, so he's relatively young (mid 20's?) and a few years older than me. I find him really attractive and he happens to be really funny and intelligent. I'd say I have a keen gaydar, and my suspicions have usually been right in the past. He's not a flamer, but there are certain things about his body language that lead me to believe that he's gay/bi. The thing is, I want to know for sure if he is before I embarrass myself if I happen to hit on him. So, how would I go around that? Also, I know teachers are off limits until the term ends, so when it does what would be the best way to make it clear that I'm interested in him? Until then I might just talk to him after lectures to get to know him a bit more and perhaps find out if he's actually gay.

>>2007519 I had a homofag graduate TA in my horticulture course. He was a cool bro but I got some weird vibes. I'd say don't make any moves, you idiot.

>>2007695 Eh, it's not a big deal once they're no longer your professor.

Yeah, just talk to him until the end of the year. At the end of the year ask him out. He might say no and you might get embarrassed but there is no surefire way of knowing other then witnessing or asking.

>>2007815 Do you know what a graduation contract is, sweetie? It is a big deal. The university/dean cannot sign it if anyone has disclosed a student-faculty relationship and that student was ever enrolled in that faculty member's courses.

I've had crushes on professors before but I never really knew if it was appropriate to act out on it, so I just never did.

>>2007963 As a young professor I can confirm that it IS a HUGE deal. My university explicitly forbids any form of sexual relationship with any undergraduate student regardless of the academic relationship or lack there-of. I have an understanding that more and more universities are going this way these days. If you are an undergrad please do not put your professor in that position... however if you are a graduate student then there may be _some_ leeway if you are in a different department.

Well then, the question is - how close are you to graduation?

Just wait until you graduate. Most major universities have really strict policies against any kind of student/professor relations, so don't put your professor in an uncomfortable situation by "making a move". I'm an out gay student and I make sure that if I'm interacting with gay staff members, it's obvious that we're maintaining professional distance, because I respect them, and don't want to put their jobs at risk over someone perceiving that I'm hitting on him.
