Well, I guess that America historically has been a more free country than most of European countries, in the sense that USA has had less laws and regulations concerning an individuals freedom (can own guns, defend property, bill of rights). I'd say that most European countries historically have had stricter laws concerning personal freedom. Unfortunately, the idea that USA is a "more free" country than most is beginning to be a thing of the past. Stricter laws are now in place that severely limit or restrict an American's rights (war on terror, war on drugs, patriot act etc.) I consider America a free country in the sense that you guys have democracy and stuff, but if you're "more free" than Norwegians, I couldn't really say.

>>9787670 >Explain to me how we are more free than your country We're not, that's just a talking point conservatives and rednecks use because they're mentally stuck in the 1950's image of USA #1 AT EVERYTHING. America certainly isn't the worst place to live; people are still flooding here from shittier countries, but we definitely have some self improving to do.

America is getting to the point where you're free if you're rich and fucked if you're not. >bill of rights The problem with this is that many Americans will boast about their Second Amendment right to own guns, but not give half a shit about everyone else's FIRST AMENDMENT right to free speech. Other examples abound. I doubt most voters could even name all the amendments in the bill of rights.

About the only thing America is the unquestionable leader in is military power/spending and that's laughable when you consider it took us 10 fucking years to get Osama bin Laden and we're still dicking around the Middle East.

We tell ourselves we are free when in reality we are usually only allowed to do what is socially acceptable. We are not free. We are just freer than most. I know I am going off topic but, Does it seem possible that the major reason we had economic growth (generally) from 1950-2007 was because we had a huge amount of our population in the labor force? Also Just recently our unemployment rate has been going down because our worker-dependent ratio has dropped to 1970's levels when a large amount of women did not work. In the future both the US and Europes GDP's will probably decrease because of lower worker to dependent ratios. Our economy really has not grown "in reality" since early 2000's, and that was caused by the fed, high tech, and a housing bubble.

When a middle eastern country does not follow this rhythm the entire economy goes topsy turvy. We have to over thrw the governments or the western world falls deeper into recession.
