>>9228916 Because Africa is behind S. America in development in a lot of places. For example, Northern, Central, and Western Africa all have places in them that need lots of infrastructural work in order to become a fully fledged nation. In South America this is not as prevalent, because many of the areas only need investment in order to become fully fledged nations.

I was surprised how relativity decent my education was once I entered the working world. There really are some dumbass people out there. It can be hard to even carry on a conversation with them as I have to stop every so often and explain a place, concept, historical event to them. Example: Guy told me the reason the US lost ww2 is because the Chinese suicide bombed all of our ships. Another said that we don't know how deep the Detroit River is because nobody can hold their breath long enough to reach the bottom. These guys were dead serious. I actually had to explain who Napoleon Bonaparte was when I made a comment about him having a Napoleon complex.

>>9228869 This is true. I grew up in Kansas. We rarely studied other parts of the world. Almost all of our history was U.S. history. When we did talk about other parts of the world, it was always in a negative light. The image presented to us was that Africans and South Americans live in tribes and huts. Asians and Europeans have cities but they are poor, filthy, and have high crime. They told us that nobody has homes, only cramped apartments. Some of it comes from an American superiority complex. Americans think this is the greatest country on the planet. Some of it comes from a lingering anti-communist attitude. The Red Scare pumped baby boomers full of fear about communism, nazism, etc. I was taught that socialism of any kind can NEVER work. That was presented as FACT. Not even a soft science kind of fact... but that socialism failing is as concrete as the law of gravity. Thus, the fear around universal health care. OP's story isn't some unique set of retards. In Kansas, everybody was taught that from a young age. Things are getting better though. There is more cultural awareness and this idea that "everywhere but America is a shithole" is fading. The idea that some places might be BETTER than America is still outside the norm, but at least the idea that "everyone else lives in grass huts" no longer dominates social studies classes.

>>9229196 In order to change how we view the world we must change how our children learn about the world. The problem is that 90% of our textbooks are printed in Texas and then altered to fit arbitrary state regulations on education. This means that for the most part, what our children learn is based on what the board of education in Texas decides children should learn. There's a huge problem with this, mostly because the political stance of the Texas B.o.E. has been staunchly Republican since it was created. I'm not saying Republicans are bad, I'm saying that old Republicans are bad. We can't open our minds to the world if all we learn from the first day of school to the last day of school is that everywhere else sucks and that we are the best. And we can't change that until the Texas B.o.E. opens it's eyes.

>>9228832 It's not a stereotype when it's true. And for 'Murrica's Mexicans, it's 100% true. They come from the shitty Mexican farming villages that were bankrupted by NAFTA, and that's why they're so brown. They're rarely from your urbanite population, because those people immigrate legally and tend to become anti-illegal-immigrant Republicans.

Some of my Merrikan online friends were really surprised when I told them my childhood was pretty much similar to theirs (lived in a house, cartoon network on TV, had shit ton of space to play in, had vidya gaemz and internet) But we have our own stereotypes of Merikans too. For example most people here think America is really crime ridden and unsafe. For example if you leave your child to roam around the neighborhood with friends (which is extremely common here) some pedo will kidnap it and etc.
