Does your country have a lot of degenerate art?

2 min later 8878173 Anonymous
My country has too much. They even put a giant slab of metal in front of our old, beautiful church.

>>8878142 well in Europe its about a reaction to early art, like a teenager rebelling against their parents. But now-a-days its a lack of talent. Picasso was a classically trained artist who choose to paint abstractly, but for a lazy attention seeking shithead today its easier to skip the classical trained part. A classic painting probably took months to years to make and years of training. Throwing a crucifix in a far of piss and snapping a picture takes 30 minutes if you don't have a crucifix.

There's an art institute called Konstfack where they're pretty much compete against each other on who can think of the most fucked up things. We just had one artist who tried starting a campaign to make sure crabs don't go extinct. Because so many shave/wax these days they almost are and she was all OH BUT THEY'RE ANIMALS TOO WHY ARE THEY LESS VALUED and THEY'RE A SYMBOL FOR LIKE THE POLAR BEAR AND OTHER EXTINCT ANIMALS AND SHIT. So she tried finding people who were willing to have crabs so they could have a habitat again. And then they'd pass them around, spread the burden so that one first has crabs, then take those crabs and gives them to a second person and so on. Because god save the crabs, right?

>>8879118 Would you believe that back when most of those "masterpieces" the OP posted were made, they were considered shit? Art critics are fucking stupid and judge "art" not on its aesthetics, beauty or profundity, but on what other people think. If someone in the group says "This is art", they'll repeat it like fucking macaws because only idiots disagree with art critics (or so they think) and unfortunately, when it comes to modern art galleries, it's art critics who decide what goes in there. There is plenty of good, modern art. In 50 to 100 years, it'll be displayed in museums after the people who made them have died poor and unknown while the shit that art critics hail as "groundbreaking" today will have been accidentally thrown out with garbage and will be forgotten about.

Yes. Pig disgusting. I prefer traditional. I have an acquaintance who draws modern abstract art and the thing is that he can't draw anything traditional well so he draws it skewed and weird.

God I really fucking hate 3edgy5me art. Like seriously. I accept that other valid forms of visual art exist beyond realism (although I still think it's the best of account of the skill it takes to pull it off), but anyone who thinks a twisted piece of metal or painting of Jesus smeared with feces (and I'm not even Christian) is art because THE SYMBOLISM!, then you can fuck yourself.

2 hours later 8879562 Anonymous
>>8879469 Not really, no. I can spend 500 hours throwing shit at a canvas, doesn't make it more valuable. The value of art comes in its beauty, in its ability to evoke emotions, feelings in people. The ability to reproduce reality was important back before photography too, since there was no other way to do it. In fact, if you ever go to the Montreal fine arts museum, there's an absolutely incredible piece from the renaissance of two actors reading a screenplay in front of a candle. But photography killed realist painting. Though not entirely, mind you. Realism still has a place in art, but only for the most gifted of artists who can use it to give forms to the impossible. Ever read Lovecraft's story, "Pickman's model"? It tells the story of an artist whose works are detailed paintings of ghouls ravenously killing, defiling and devouring people. The striking thing about his technique is that it is realist; the things themselves are painted as if they were part of a functional, horrible world. Of course, in the end, we learn that he actually paints from photographs (THE MONSTERS ARE REAL AAAAHHH) but my point here is that realism still has its place in such forms; to depict the inexistent or imperceptible in a detailed, mathematical, realistic way.
