I am already 18 and the Israeli Army is calling me to serve in the IDF.
I would do that, but the problem is that I have never lived there my whole life. I was only born there, and moved away as soon as I could fly.
Today I went to the local consulate, and they told me that, under my special circumstances, I am not allowed to postpone my army service like any other person such as myself in the same situation. I won't go into why this is different for me for anonymous reasons, but basically, they gave me an ultimatum.
I either go and serve in the Israeli army for 3 years, and won't be allowed to leave the country, or I essentially become a criminal, and would be arrested on the spot should I ever try to enter Israel again.
I decided that, since I am currently slightly depressed, and feel like i am not doing anything with my life, I might as well enlist in the army and feel alive, than continuing my dead end life here.
The only problem is I don't speak any Hebrew, and don't want to die in a desert.
If there are any Israelis here right now, what are the chances that I can get a job as maybe a liason or some kind of bureaucratic work or be a recruiter or something after basic training?
Additional information: I speak English and Spanish fluently, and some Portuguese because my mother is from South America, and my father is just a regular american.

Sounds weird to me. Maybe you could go with that depression and ask for an exemption from service - it works pretty easily. They would probably be happier to let you go than have another "Hayal boded".
Anyway, it's not hard to get bureaucratic/office job in the army (it's called "jobnik"). Maybe your knowledge of languages can help you with getting to work in Intelligence which is pretty interesting. Good luck.

Yeah it's exactly the same, except you're in country you've never been in before, surrounded by languages you don't understand and in the midst of a bunch of people who hate you (and a few who will actually try to kill you) for taking their land.

Dual citizenship doesn't make you exempt. It specifically states in your passport that if you hold citizenship in a country with conscription and they call you, you have to go.

Just to clear it up for anyone with misconceptions, I don't care about any of the politics, and don't really feel strongly towards one side or the other in the Middle East
It just so happens that I was born in Israel, even though I could just as well have been born in Jordan or Lebanon, and the Israelis see me as one of their own

I've been over there, 99.9% of them are nice, normal people who are getting a big dick up their collective ass from Israel. If you serve you'll probably convince yourself that they're subhumans or something though. Military service helps you do that sometimes.

also, one thing that has been nice was that i could travel to a lot more countries visa free with my israeli passport than with my american passport
for example, i once took a trip to brazil, and was through customs within minutes, with respectful glances from the customs official, while the rest of my american passport holding friends were treated like dogshit because of their nationality

Also, what seems to be happening is that you're kind of depressed. Then suddenly you get offered a sense of purpose that isn't actually your own. It's not my fight, but then again, I don't want to partake in combat. What I'm basically looking for is just a job, like a vehicle repair guy, or a people relations guy which would count towards the army service. Plus, I've been to Israel, it's a nice place. I know a few Israelis who were really nice to me during the time I was there.

pretty much you enlist with a couple of other amercians/canadians with who you live in a kibutz and the army teaches you the hebrew and pretty much all you do in your service is to travel and voulenteer with children/working in the kibutz but I didin't realy bother to read this
Also, a lot of people are in your situation and almost none of them actually come to enlist, I'm pretty sure you can get out of this
