I went on a ghost tour there while heavily intoxicated with some friends, we ran away from the instructor down different hallways and played hide and seek (like all civilized adults do), we all started hearing noises and weird things were happening so we ran out. We completely forgot about the instructor and one of our friends who passed out in some cell (he was pretty mad when I next saw him).

Those towers arent worth the serveral hundret years of destroyed history and culture.
From a street perspective is looks much worse because the stuff build after the war was absolute horrible.
Its also not just this city but every major one. And dont start with any discussions. The same is true for rotterdam, warsaw, etc.

I especially hate how poorly the allies, mostly the soviets, treated historic sites. For example the Berlin and Potsdam City Palaces and the Potsdam Garrison church, all of which were heavily damaged, but could have been salvaged

Yes but i dont think the people at that time really cared about historic stuff. They needed houses and that very fast. Millions had no roof over the head because the living space was targeted by the bombs and they got millions of refugies from the east. So they build a lkot of crappy stuff.
