If certain countries stopped complaining about past and playing victim to get benefits, we would be living in a nice world.

Depends on the government. Japan went from full isolationism to aggressive colonialism in ~1850, culminating in the other century in WW2.
However, this is past stuff.

and anyway, you can't allow nations to be on their own because then they become wacky and xenophobic and what else.
Sometimes isolation works out well. Lots of the time, it doesn't because they lack accountability.

This. A thousand times this. The past is done with and the people living today have no connection whatsoever to it. So why should they be punished or given benefits based off of something they didn't do or didn't have done to them.

I always use Elbonia as random country due to Dilbert strips.
And if you're going to exert that kind of pressure, seriously, it'll only be annoying for the country but not changing real shit.
I think both your point and mine can be solved with embassies and such being the minimum country openness. At least, something from ONU, not necessary being from a country. What do you think?

Oh, I agree completely. If it seemed like I was suggesting any kind of WURLD POLEZ then I was misrepresenting myself. I assumed that 'isolation' meant shutting down foreign embassies and calling everyone back home.
The use of force in such a situation would only be damaging for everyone involved, both for the nation being forced and the nation or international organization doing the forcing. Once you start, where do you stop?

It is governed as a whole by the UN, but every nation is looking after their own interests more than those of others (which is perfectly reasonable), and the UN's peacekeeping/AID forces aren't as effective as one would like, especially after the whole Oil-for-Food scandal surfaced, DUTCHBAT, etc.

The old tragedy of the commons. This is difficult to avoid, but maybe if ONU started putting restrictions in countries' military power at one side AND became more effective at the other (like you hinted), it could be solved. Maybe.
