Officially: 4.2% Inofficially probably ~7% Everything beyond 5% is considered absolutely inacceptable here, like the whole country would spontanously fall apart from it, and the closer we got to that number the more people complain and the angrier they get. If they only understood how lucky we are even now compared to many if not most other countries. But I think the jolly days of <2% unemployment are over for good...

Taiwan July: 4.31% however, this month we got something worse than unemployment coming back: it's called unpaid leave. the government pressure companies to keep unemployment rate low. so companies don't fire people but tell workers to take unpaid leaves. this problem got a name in 2008 crisis. last october there are 13k people reported on unpaid leaves. (real number should be much higher). This year has not been good, but the number gradually fall to 850 in august. Today's news: we have 400 more.

>>5929851 not really. unemployment = no. people without a job and looking / no. people in the workforce (those without a job and looking, and those with a job). for USA that is 8.3% the underemployment rate = (those without a job and looking + those with a job but want more hours and can't get them) / workforce. that is your 15%. Australia's unemployment rate is 5%, but its underemployment rate is more like 9%. this makes sense as 1/4 of the work force is casual/part time your 20-22% number also includes "discouraged workers"; those who have just given up looking for a job and have dropped out of the work force (and therefore aren't counted in the unemployment rate). these poor fuckers rarely rejoin the workforce, which is why it is imperative to nail unemployment problems asap; given enough time some short-term unemployed become long-term unemployed, and some long-term unemployed become discouraged workers and that's all she wrote. that's productive capacity gone forever

I love this threads Colombia: 12% if you take people that searched for jobs and didn't find them as not unemployed. And if you take the people that sell things on the floor on the street, or those who sell candies, without any saving capacity and no health insurance as employed, then 60% Thats it, i win.
