>>5869535 nah, Japan is still going strong. its growth back in the 80s was inflated quite a bit by the massive property and stock bubble. musnt forget japan's epic aging population too; u guys have a much larger chunk of the population to support than anywhere else, especially USA and Australia. fact is, Japan's productivity growth, which is all that really matters, has remained strong. g dp per employed person is a good comparison, as it accounts for aging population. see enclosed pic. Japan has maintained strong growth, but contrary to popular belief, it never actually reached full euro/us/aus living standards. Japan is a rich, developed modern economy of course, but it still isn't top tier. That's only because it is playing catch up of course; look how dirt poor it was in 1960

>>5869565 >>5869572 Australia's property bubble isn't comparable to Japan's or USA's, for 2 reasons: 1. Jap's bubble was largely in the corporate sector, not household sector 2. USA's bubble was in the household sector (like australias), but in USA incomes for most households have had very slow growth over the past few decades, to the point of stagnation for some. Australia's hh income for all income groups has had mad real growth, and people can easily afford their mortgage payments. Also most house loans made to Australians were quality loans; we dont have much of a subprime market not saying house prices aint gonna come down; just saying the bubble will slowly deflate rather than pop

>>5869598 Oh I see, you guys knew when to call it quits. The Japanese experience was really really crazy. The Americans were telling us to "WHOA , SLOW DOWN BITCH, YOU'RE GONNA PARTY TO DEATH" we told them they're just jelly and our own economists didn't want to be seen as party poopers so they kept quiet even when they knew they had to speak out. and here we are now. >>5869637 Haha, you can see from the chart that house price inflation here was pretty crazy, incomes sure didn't rise by 600% over the same period. But the market didn't crash, exactly, it just softened and new construction slowed down a lot. Although in some places like the Gold Coast, house prices really went down a huge amount.
