I know more about american country/folk and bluesgrass than i know about the folk music of my own country In fact, i'm completely clueless about it... Yet, i can recite all albums of Carter Family, play all hank williams sr. songs on the guitar... i have whole lot of spreadsheets of country musicians and their bios I went as far as buying a banjo a year ago and now i'm mastering the clawhammer technique. I pick up a folding chair, drive up to the mountains, lit a cigar, crack open a beer and play the banjo. ....This is what happens when you are ostracised in school and grow up with a cousin who is an ameriboo... and i wouldn't have it any other way.

>>138803930 Western swing is pretty good As for me ive been listening to some apalachian gospels. I like that "gothic" country spirituality (Btw, i know about my country's folk music, it was just the bait to reel in the fishes)

>>138804205 >Btw, i know about my country's folk music you sly dog, but i havent listened so much to the really old recordings, but from the 50's and onwards i have listened a lot to. i also like watching old shows on youtube, like hee haw and the buck owens show, its really comfy and makes me nostalgic for a time 50 years before i was born

>>138804840 I know him too His music sounds epic We had a semi-famous psychobilly band here in the 80s No one cares about them anymore. Rockabilly culture is more than dead and buried in Portugal. Dont condemn, times change its how things flow The band https://youtu.be/9VyQU7BYIos

Recommend me the gloomiest Americana artist/album/song you can think of, preferably the most popular ones of that vein I always thought American country music had an inherent nihilist quality with its minimalistic guitar sound, dark brooding voice and melancholic song texts but never cared to research it on my own Whatever is the polar opposite of that uplifting of prototypical fast-paced handpicking bluegrass sound

>>138805041 cool that you also have(or had) a rockabilly culture, in sweden it is still kind of strong, my dad plays and has played in such kinds of bands all his life, but its mostly older people playing and listening to it, so everytime i have played the music i love it has been with 50 year olds haha

>>138805058 *the polar opposite of that uplifting prototypical fast-paced handpicking bluegrass sound Here is a good example of what I'm seeking for Though obviously Johnny is oriented towards rockabilly style-wise, this tune has an inherent country quality to a layman like me https://youtu.be/XsfzCZCFP0Q

>>138805139 Hmmm We never really had an actual rock n roll movement here We came very late to the party, remember that portugal was a dictatorship until 1974. During the 60s rock n roll was restricted to the upper middle class in Lisbon. The rest of the population would just listen to folk music
