is windows 9x emulation still shit?

What do you mean emulation? You can run it in a virtual machine.

>emulation run it on bare metal you pussy

>>71007473 i don't mean virtualizing. i mean actual emulation of the hardware those operating systems ran on >>71007475 if emulation is decent enough it's much more convenient to use it on your current machine

>>71007540 never found emulation more convenient than a single little dedicated box or laptop I can shove in a closet and pull out when I need it it just encourages unnecessary file system clutter on your main computer and is also boring as fuck to boot, windows 9x was fucking trash it's the hardware it runs on and the historical context that actually makes it interesting

Who's your God now? You need 9x to use this beauty properly.

>>71007451 86box runs it pretty well, give it a try

2 hours later 71009117 Anonymous
>>71009098 People have been doing it for well over a decade. Just look at dosbox, and qemu that it shares code with.

>>71007540 >i mean actual emulation of the hardware then you should have specified that, since win9x isn't hardware

>>71007540 Try PCem.

2 hours later 71009343 Anonymous
Dosbox already emulates the hardware Win9x runs on.

2 hours later 71009399 Anonymous
>>71007451 PCem is passable if you have a recent PC. Just don't expect XP era games to work on it.

I just bought an fx 5950 ultra for almost nothing

>>71009134 i did specify "emulation" though. i foolishly expected you to deduce that i meant emulation of the hardware, my bad >>71009315 >>71009343 these are what i was looking for, thanks. i notice dosbox is multi platform, which has the best support and can give most accurate emulation?

>>71009044 I have this too, the PCI version.

>>71010241 PCem seems to be quite accurate and runs everything up to Pentium MMX and Cyrix/IDT chips of the same era, inclduing support for Voodoo (2) graphics. Windows 95 works as well as any other OS, I even got TinyCoreLinux to boot. Requires a very fast computer though.

4 hours later 71010744 Anonymous
>>71010241 Dosbox is not meant to run windows 9x. Use PCem for better results.
