Why do these abominations exist? Like whats the fucking point of having 10KG laptops with an hour of battery life.

They're also complete aids to work on. I worked in a repair shop for over a year. Any gaming laptop was almost always tier 3 labor.

1 hours later 69009004 Anonymous
>>69007551 They're functional if all you're doing is going point a to b. I had one back in college and it was fine, set up in the lab, don't move for 4 hours, go home. What really infuriates me is how every manufacturer goes full retard the instant they add a dedicated gpu. I'm just looking for a good ultrabook with an mx150 for light strategy and shit in between light 3d work and every single one has something wrong with it whether it be screen quality, build quality, or they actually forget they have to vent heat and the cpu throttles on its own before the gpu even kicks in.

Funny how so often people both about Apple being a fashion accessory but complain about how everything looks. It's a tool what matters is its function not its looks. Just deal with the fact that manufacturers make gaymen laptops look like a spaceship. So what if it has the power you are looking for.

>>69007551 First: The "gaming laptop" phenomenon is the logical result of the "desktop replacement" phenomenon in laptops. Engineers needed a computer that they could easily transport with them but necessarily use without plugging into the wall. This is historically reminiscent of "luggable" computers, which came into existence at a time before batteries were powerful enough to run a computer alone for more than 35 minutes. Second: the appeal of a gaming computer is the idea that you aren't just purchasing something that you don't have to physically put together but also comes with a keyboard and screen. It is a bit silly, I recognize. The battery life is so limited because of the massive power draw but also because it isn't the main focus. tldr; people want to bring their gaming computer everywhere but plug it in whenever they use it.

>>69007551 I hated them and thought they were stupid until I sold my macbook and went laptop shopping and found one on sale that didn't look overly gaymurrr (mostly just the red keyboard backlight that I keep turned off anyway) and had decent specs that was on sale so after the $750 from my 2013 mba I only had to pay $150 for a laptop with an i7-8750H, gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ddr4, 512gb nvme ssd, 1tb 7200rpm hdd, and a 17.3" ips, 1080p@144hz. It's not too heavy either, less than 2kg and the battery lasts a good long while with decent power profiles and sticking to the intel integrated graphics. Definitely not gonna be gaming on battery power for more than 2 hours because the 1060 is a battery rapist, but I was able to watch the first two Hobbit movies at work before I had to plug in. As long as you can type without needing to look at your keyboard in the dark (if you can't, wtf are you doing here?) It looks like just a slightly thicc normal laptop

15 hours later 69015474 Anonymous
>>69015150 >Did you mistype I dunno... 1kg is around 3lbs, right? This laptop is a little over 5lbs, so "less than 2kg" seemed correct. I only used kg because that's the unit of measure OP used. I'm an Americunt (though I WISH we used metric here, it just makes more sense than trying to remember shit like "how many cups in a gallon") so I'm not too good with metric conversion. I just looked it up, and I'm wrong. It's right about 2.6kg, but that's still not the exaggerated 10kg from OP. My last job was cutting down trees and tossing around logs that weighed about 75kg (THIS time I used a conversion calculator) so it feels like nothing to me, but on really long overnight shifts at the hospital I can plug in and play vidya to pass the time.

15 hours later 69015548 Anonymous
>>69015190 That's actually not a terrible idea. Though the display at work is some ancient 1024x768 12" shit with logo burn-in from the ncurses style medical software this hospital used before. Plus I don't have a monitor at home, since I haven't had a desktop machine in 5 years. The macbook and applel ecosystem completely took over my life. I only managed to break free because my pitbull ate my iPhone SE and when I went to replace it with something new I threw up over the notch. Ended up getting a galaxy S9 and fell in love with Android so I decided to free myself from the apple shill machine entirely.

>>69015548 alright, but if you had a decent television even that would do until you scratched up the cash to buy a 1080p display, those are really cheap nowadays. thunderbolt 3 is a pretty great feature as well, lets you get out a bit further beyond whatever gpu the unit originally came with and you likely won't feel as limited when gaming at home. a gaming laptop can offer the same but ultimately it's limited by the cpu which comes socketed in most nucs

>>69007551 I use a Ryzen 5 2500u with a RX560+ based Acer nitro 5 (entery level gaming notebook) as my secondary pc, I prefer to use it for playing MMOs since they rarely demand more horsepower and it gives me the option to play comfortably from the sofa rather than firing up the dedicated gaming desktop like I would to play a more competitive game like PUBG. I certainly wouldn't recomend one as a primary gaming machine to anyone who has the space for even a SFF desktop machine, but as a secondary or for people who simply can't have a dedicated non-portable machine for some reason, they can be extremely useful.
