I think it was tenths of a cent earlier in the month too.
I just bought a couple at 90 cents and now I'm waiting on a new card to start mining.

Litecoin will be popular because with asics completely wrecking miners; they'll transition over to litecoin where they can actually mine.

fucking AMD/ATI drivers man. I can't get GPU mining to work. miners just crash.
8 min later 32702061 Anonymous

Someone will make a new coin and everyone will jump ship when GPU litecoin mining is no longer profitable.

Is it smart to buy a 7970 to mine these right now ?
I can afford one and I need a new rig anyway. Is it possible to earn back that 200$ difference from an average card ?

At the current value and difficulty it will take about two months to recoup your money.

mining right now with my 6850 at an estimated 2.5 per day. I really hope these end up like bitcoins. I really should have bought some of those when they were $1 each.

What's your hashrate? Are you using your cpu, too?
26 min later 32702242 Anonymous
Because you're assuming it's gonna blow up in value like Bitcoins. It's another competing currency in a world where one's already have trouble being widely adopted in spite of its value. I guess it's fun to be early in but that doesn't mean everyone else's gonna jump in your boat. If you can mine LTs and BTs at the same time as some people are doing I guess it's not much of a gamble. Personally, all of my money's on Bitcoins unless they somehow fail.

The only reason it's gaining any attention right now is because the value and difficulty of Bitcoin mining has blown up and some people are all like 'but I want into this shit too!!!', thus inflating the value for no good reason.

its about 270Khashes/second
and im only using the GPU. Its not worth it to strain my CPU. It really doesnt add much.

while litecoin maybe a fun little thing to toy about we have... a little problem. Usage.
Why the fuck would anybody use this over bitcoin? There is... WOAH NO REASON TO.
I know you're gonna say
>muh silver to btc's gold
but come on, btc isn't like gold
gold is hard to divide up, bitcoin is easy and be divied up like crazy

Everyone is assuming that it's going to blow up like bitcoins. This is what gives it value.
However, it's going to be shortlived once the cashing out starts.

where does one obtain a litecoin account/miner?
32 min later 32702301 Anonymous
>>32702251
1, Sign up at btc-e.com
2. Get your wallet for bitcoin deposit at btc-e and copy it.
3. Go to Bitinstant.com, select cash deposit and fill out the info. Then print the form and take it to your nearest moneygram agent.
4. Buy litecoins with your bitcoins after the deposit comes through.

35 min later 32702329 Anonymous

While your reasoning is flawed, LTC isn't silver to BTC's gold because BTC has yet to be established the same way gold is. We'll see what standard arises as an alternative when that's done but for now, it's all a gamble. LTs are just one of several alternative P2P currency solutions based off BT avail. out-there.

how the hell do you buy a litecoin?
38 min later 32702354 Anonymous
There is no market demand for Litecoins except people betting on Litecoins as an alternative currency to Bitcoins at the moment. Before you start wasting away electricity because they're more common than BTCs, consider this fact and whether or not you should buy into it as a result. For all you know, merchants might prefer another alternative.

I'm not saying otherwise, BTC's likely to become the 'standard' (as in reference point) for judging the value of any alternatives, however. At the moment, they're just another way to acquire Bitcoins without having to [truly] risk (disregarding utilities) any capital.

>Give it time
I am, but you're making the assumption that no other competing P2P currency will surge ahead of it or that it won't deprecate. It's a gamble in itself, though it seems to be a consensus amongst g's latefags that this is the worthwhile alternative.
