What will technology be like in 2020?

>5 billion people So, suddenly everyone from Africa, India and China will have internet access? Because that doesn't seem likely.

2 min later 29003538 Anonymous
Tablets are, unfortunately, respectable. Cell phones are even more cellular. Social networks you haven't even begun to imagine. /g/ is circlejerking over Google getting crushed in their Glasses lawsuits. Having a desktop or a laptop makes you a pretentious nerd.

>>29003538 but how can you play real games on a tablet? are the real games going to cater to tablets and become casual games?

11 min later 29003706 Anonymous
>>29003591 It's exactly what happened when consoles started to have okay graphics - developers abandoned the pc in droves. Smartphones come along and they jump on board and then tablets too. Developers hate the PC! It's probably due to the high cost of the systems, the constant updating of hardware is expensive for users and the developers too because they have to design for higher and higher end systems. Consoles are far more predictable and popular cause they aren't so expensive. That's why the PC is dead.

>>29003591 The GPU in the xbox 360 has like 240GFLOPS compute power. The next gen Mali GPU from ARM with 8 cores is going to be around 350GFLOPS. Mobile hardware has the shortest lifespans, and the fastest development roadmaps. Huge advances are being made regularly every 6 months or so. If we could get battery life to improve then serious AAA games on tablets could easily become a reality. A few things have been popping up that could bring that battery life to market within a couple years. http://www.tweaktown.com/news/26609/new_battery_tech_from_crushed_silicon_anode_could_triple_battery _life_in_devices/index.html http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/new-technology-could-double-sma rtphone-battery-life-1109741 In terms of CPU power ARM is making pretty big strides too. The Exynos 5250 with dual core A15 processor handedly beats an intel Atom 570. That puts it in the area of AMD's E series APUs, while drawing a fraction of the power. A quad core Cortex A15 chip should be about as powerful as AMD Athlon 64 chip. The hardware is definitely getting there, and if you built it they will come. So to speak.

>>29005433 >butthurt retard kike confirmed. Their IOMMU spec is already published and available to the public. The HSA IL is done, CodeXL HSA/parallel debugging tool was released weeks ago. HSA isn't a revolutionary thing pulled from someones ass, its a culmination of things that have existed for a long time that no one thought to bring together for their benefit. The Xbox 360 and numerous other devices out there incorporate one very important performance increasing HSA feature already. A unified memory address space. Eliminate the need to move data from a CPU queue to the GPU before execution and you save both processing time and power. Eliminating memory writes and cache flushes is a big part of this. Because of how it is implemented it is hardware agnostic. That eliminates the need for developers to port their software across multiple platforms. Because it makes use of common languages like JAVA, C++ AMP, and OpenCL there is no need for developers to learn some new niche language. They can take the languages they're already familiar with and create HSA compliant software. If you weren't literally fucking retarded you'd know this.
