Hey guys, I'm going to apply for an internship in a few small dutch game companies and was wondering what you guys think of my portfolio?
http://thempsportfolio.blogspot.nl/
It's not completely finished yet, I have 2 more (small) games to place on it yet and probably still gonna create a demo of A* pathfinding this week.

Don't do this. Employers aren't gonna hire you because you're vaguely hinting that you're doing something cool. You need to tell them the cool shit you're doing. Otherwise they'll just go with the guy who told them all about the slightly less cool shit.

Blogger looks pretty unprofessional imo
Maybe use wordpress instead.

But what about the content.. Think it'll suffice?
Think my programming is good enough/nice enough for companies?

Impossible to say, you haven't posted any code.
Pretty much all companies today use github, it might be a good idea to create and account and put all your projects source code on there.

No.
Stop.
Get a github account (or bitbucket if you want private repos/mercurial) and post your shit there.

except for Guerilla games with it's killzone and stuff
so mostly Iphone/Android/PC-MAC

Huge lol at blogspot and being a fucking C# monkey. Enjoy never accomplishing anything of value, ever.

You should get a native english speaker to edit your site. Your grammar is okay, but you make a few mistakes that hurt overall comprehension. Given that communication is an integral part of most jobs, this is key.
16 min later 28005942 Anonymous
>>28005867
Oh right, yeah it's not in English for me, I didn't even notice it.
You're code looks a little basic, I don't know much .NET though.
Companies are gonna mainly be looking to see your use of MVC, these pictures don't really show that.
Also screenshots of code will make any developer instantly loath you

almost every (small) game company here works in either AS3 , C# or Unity3D we don't have many companies working in C++ here

Yeah I figured as much.. But I needed a way to show my code on there without linking to other pages / having HUGE walls of code
so this was the cleanest way..
also I try (have yet to do) to have a download link for the source code at the end of every page so you can freely look at it.
25 min later 28006054 Anonymous
So yeah.. Any other thing's I might have to improve?

>blogger
No. A blog is not a portfolio is not a blog. If you feel you write enough to warrant a blog, keep it separate, and even then You do not want a 'next blog' button constantly sitting at the top of your page.
>free domain
No. A domain with hosting will cost a pittance, and the majority will come with automatic tools to install wordpress. You're foreign, so you probably have a crazy name which won't have been registered as a domain.
>screenshots of code with source zip/tarballs hosted on file-sharing sites.
No. Use github. Adding experience with distributed version control systems will help you. You can even get a free student micro account which comes with private repositories, although you'll want your non-assessed work available to everyone.
Also, ctrl+f "resume" or "cv" or "curic" doesn't return any results. Put up a resume with contact information beyond your name and email address 'available on request'. If you ever run into someone that could give you a job, you aren't going to have your resume on hand - a link to borkbork.nl is easy to access, and the easier is better.

gee wilikers don't you think that's an issue with your design patterns?

The C# is kind of putting me off but that shouldn't matter.
Consider changing the icon of your Windows Forms applications to something else than default.
Verder komt het vast goed.

And basically a portfolio is a collection of work you have right?
doesn't make this "Blog" my portfolio then?

It would be better to buy yourself a domain and hosting and do it on there, doesn't look very 'professional' at the moment.
33 min later 28006178 Anonymous
>>28006154
Just buy a domain and use free hosting. There are lots of free hosting websites that doesn't even require you to link to their website.

Do you even read your own blog:

On a technical level it is. But linguistically, the connotations of 'blog' are 'informal', 'non-professional' (not unprofessional), and very different to that of 'portfolio'. By all means keep it in a blog style, but really, you don't want XNA snake there in 6 months when you've implemented a more advanced and impressive algorithm.
I should also add, since you brought up the linking to walls of code issue (maybe you didn't, but it is a good question regardless) - on github, you can append numbers like #L10 to have the link go directly to parts of a source file. Have links in a README.md pointing to things you feel are important. You can also highlight parts of code by appending something like #L10-20. e.g. https://github.com/ruby/ruby/blob/trunk/doc/etc.rd#L22-37

Hmm I'm getting a bit confused who to believe with their opinions.. My teacher who goes over the internships and stuff said this is a great portfolio, which works well and I've pretty much followed all their reqs, (I'm 18 and on a Game Dev education thingy)
They have had their students all the previous years accepted and stuff so I think I'm pretty much set too, I just need more content I think..
and.. Why are screenshots of Code so bad?
They are readable.. compact.. and sure I know github would be professional but my whole portfolio gotta be finished by 8 october and can;t really be bother to start all over again.

Dude, create a github account and upload some code there.
Do it in steps, at least link your code through GitHub.

No, that's what they want to see. Code, not pictures.
Yes, this means open sourcing your stuff.

>Why are screenshots of Code so bad?
It isn't particularly easy to interpret a program by just viewing classes or select chunks of code. The ability to browse the entire source tree, with certain sections of importance highlighted is incredibly valuable to those that have to look through a lot of portfolios. The current situation is as this:
>view parts of source with description and explanation
>go to mediafire to download the rest of the project (hoping mediafire doesn't throw out a captcha)
>download an archive that has to be extracted
>fire up Visual Studio, or if the non-workstation computers don't have VS, give up.
It isn't particularly easy, and there are far too many steps for something as simple as viewing a single .cs file. Even if you don't do it for University, get it done for your future prospects.

ahh I see.. I get it..But I explain every important detail in any program I have put up on there..
any other code is actually not really beneficent
as it's mostly standard code someone should write or smaller unimportant parts of the program...
But I get your idea and will certainly use it, But I think it's too much work to do before my deadline (as I have alot of other schoolwork to do too)
I will work it out in steps for my later internship
