There's always these results of people saying they only bulked, but yet they have gotten way more ab definition. How the fuck is this possible? Is it just a lie? They must have done cuts in between right?

>>22002966 >There's always these results of people saying they only bulked, but yet they have gotten way more ab definition. >How the fuck is this possible? Because when you bulk and lift properly, you add muscle mass and not purely fat. The larger your abdominal muscles are, the higher your bodyfat % can be while maintaining their visibility. Ever see a skinnyfat or an auschwitzmode? They often have no abdominal definition, even when extremely underweight. While it's true that you'll need relatively low bodyfat to see them, you also need to have some muscle first. >Is it just a lie? A lie that they never cut? Yeah, most likely.

If someone's big and they have visible abs, they have to have cut bodyfat at some point. Say you've got a skinny beginner. Lyle Mcdonald and Alan Aragon (who know their shit) both tend to say that beginners in their first year of training might expect to gain as much as 1/2 lb a week of muscle, but that this will require gaining about 1lb a week in total. So say you start out at 10% bodyfat, 5'11" tall (that's average right?), weighing 160lbs. Over the course of your first year of training, you gain about 25lbs of muscle (very optimistic) and 25lbs of fat. You will now be 210lbs and 20% bodyfat. You'll need to cut back to about 185lbs to see abs.

>>22003186 >so.., doing ab exercises is important to get a 6pack after all? If you want larger abdominal muscles, weighted crunches added to a solid routine will certainly help. But heavy compounds also build your core, and if you just want visible abs at a low bf%, squatting and deading decently should be all you need. Obviously genetics play a role, as well as posture. >>22003509 >jesus christ, stop posting . . . Are you implying that bulking and lifting improperly wont add an undesirable amount of fat?

32 min later 22003646 Anonymous
Genetics, man. Abs are a naturally occurring part of the human body, provided you have enough muscle to sustain them. How they look, 4 pack, 6 or 8, is genetic, and how well they show at what body-fat percentage is, too. Pete says that he hardly ever does core work, and in that picture, all of his other pictures, and videos, it shows. He has that "hard stomach" look in your picture because he does compounds and is at a low enough body fat for his abs to kind of show. Some people are just blessed. >>22003030 He's 6' 2", bro. Stop hating and instead be proud of your fellow man for going through what he did and ending up where he is now. >>22003091 Clean bulk, or don't eat McDonalds EVERY day. >>22003186 Of course it's important. Ab work makes your abs stronger, stronger abs + lowish body-fat = visibility. Doing hundreds of crunches won't help to give you an 8 pack, unless you have the genetics for an 8 pack.

It's a mixture of how big your abdomnals are and how low your bf is. I'm bulking at ~14% and I still see 4 out of six of my abdominals. Genetics also play a role, my lower pack doesn't show until I hit 8% and my lifting bro has 6 until he hits 13%. Fucking fat storage.

ive gained around 45 lbs since i started lifting and i have much more ab definition than i did when i started. ive also never done any 'bulking and cutting', i just eat what i feel like i should be eating. if i find that the waist on my pants is starting to get a little tight, i eat a tiny bit less, and if i feel that im not gaining any muscle i just eat a tiny bit more. here are a few of the reasons why i think this is often the case: -before you start lifting, you have no muscle definition because you have no muscles -gaining muscle without gaining fat effectively lowers your bf% -core work increases size of ab muscles, making them more visible -not overbulking to the point of getting fat (you really dont need to get fat to gain muscle)
