first time doing a split so Im a bit of a newb and Ive run into a dilemma I assume is pretty common. DBs go up in 5 lb increments, and I do a lot of DB exercises. for some, the lower weight (say 20kg) feels too light and easy, but 22.5kg feels way too heavy and I only finish 3 or 4 outta my 5 total reps. so, am I best to stick with the lighter weight for a few weeks, or do you go for the heavier weight and push to failure and eventually hope you hit 5 reps? atm, Ive been pushing to failure on the heavy weight. I feel like Im progressing, but not sure. its hard since the jump is so large compared to 1/2lb barbell plates.

>>21005439 when i'm ready to move up on any lift i just start my working weight sets with the higher weight, do as many full sets as i can, and then move down and finish with the weight im trying to move up from. over time you'll finish more and more sets with the heavier weight until you dont need to even move down anymore and youll just be working on getting that last rep or two for the final set. and then it begins again

>>21005597 ok. I generally can do 1 full work set, then my 2nd and 3rd I come up 1 or 2 reps short. so maybe do 1 full set, then deload by 1 DB increment? thanks
