I failed my first bench press rep today The worst part wasn't that it was only 135, but that it was on one of those setups they have so people like me don't kill themselves and ruin the gym Luckily I was skinny enough to fidget my way out of the two inch gap I had and didn't have to ask anyone for help and embarrass myself. On a related note, is it normal for newbies to not really feel the chest muscles burning or anything during his?

You have to flex your chest muscles while benching.

>>21005415 I don't think I know how... The closest I can get right now feels a little closer to my shoulders and my upper abs I think I may be retarded

good job. failure means that you are pushing yourself past your limit. eat moar and sleep moar. you will pass 135 in no time. meanwhile you can do other arm exercises to fill in your chest, dumbell bench press is nice. incline press is a great accessory too. adding muscles in surrounding muscle groups will make your bench easier. i got past a lot of platues by changing up my routine a bit and giving the main lift a little break or a lighter than usual set. and chest muscles never really burn when you work them. DOMS for chest muscles feels like heaven. i love that feel.

>>21007779 You're right. The last thing beginners should worry about is form.

>>21007978 What is that for retarded response. Powerlifter form is great if you want to ruin your back as a beginner.

>>21005401 Find some good standard videos on youtube on correct form. And don't go so damn heavy if you're new. Start low, work your way up till you know what you're capable of for 8 reps. Spend a few months building a good core strength with a variety of workouts focusing on all your primary muscle groups. Don't you dare skip legs, and don't you dare give deadlifts a miss. Once you've got a decent amount of strength built up, you'll have probably made some gym buds too, get a spot, and push your lifts up a tier. Good luck anon.

Don't concentrate on the amount of weight dude. Just concentrate on lifting what you can and doing more sets. You'll build more muscle and it'll be easy to go up in weight of you so choose.
