hey /fit/ I'm just getting into strength training. I've been lurking for a few months and finally decided to buy myself a barbell and some weights. I found a good deal for a used set w/ oly barbell on craigslist. I've been really looking forward to coming home from work and exercising with them. My Q is, the end bits of the barbell feel a little loose. I've tightened up the hex bolts, but there is still some up and down movement. The fucking barbell rocks. Is this normal, or is this a bad sign? Pls help i'm a little clueless

this also caused some clanging noise when I re-rack the bar, which in turn wakes up my brother

>>16005352 if by collars you mean the 2 inch end bits then yes they do spin freely

>>16004959 it's normal for a cheap used bar. mine does that too and i also got it from some dude on craigslist. as long as you're confident it's not going to cause you problems while lifting, you're fine. >>16005005 i hope you're kidding. if srs...stop lifting while your brother is asleep.

>>16005439 So how does this play develop? Was it always like that, or does it get like that because its bent inside? Also I need to put some rubber on my rack to reduce noise, shit is loud!

>>16005480 probably in the bearings, iirc needle bearings are the good kind and shouldn't have that much of a problem while cheaper bars with ball bearings will

>>16005480 > I need to put some rubber on my rack to reduce noise, shit is loud! You can do that, or you can grow some nuts. Don't overthink the shit...just lift bro. Just lift. The stereotypical swole meathead is proof that you don't need to be intelligent in order to build muscle. If you're not doing explosive olympic-style movements you're not going to be putting much stress on the bearing anyway.

is it possible to determine the manufacturer of the bar? I can't see a logo.
