I made 28 and hour (53k annually) doing on site work (house fires, flood losses) for insurance companies but the working conditions are fucking brutal. I could only take it for a year then I left. The company was alright though; they paid for professional certification courses and would promote underwriting assistants to full underwriter within 3-4 years, which would give you an opportunity to then jump ship to a different firm that paid quite a bit more. I just couldn't stand it.
