What did the blowoff top feel like in 2017? what was the front page like every day? Was everyone scared as fuck that this was the actual top? or was everyone clueless and just thinking it was going to go forever?
Conversely, what happened after the bungee off the mountain? was there heaps of cope threads trying to justify losing 6-7 figures in potential gains?

The correction felt different tho... 10-20% corrections felt normal, but would last a few days, sometimes price would dump slowly and go sideways for a whole week...
When the bubble popped, I remember sitting in front of my PC screen and watching shit dump 10-20% in 1-2h timespans... it would try to bounce up, but never came close to reclaiming previous price levels

I guess my first question is, was there any thought in your mind (easy for me to say in hindsight) that it was just the end for this specific cycle, and that there would eventually be a new cycle in the future?
Or did you just think crypto as an asset was dead? and that was the cause for the plunge off the peak?

normies are already aware of crypto tho... the 2021 bubble will have a lot of retail money, but it won't be the main driving force IMO
I'm still trying to figure out what sorte of narrative will indicate the top this time since it would only be normal to see an increase in indicators like google trends and shit like that

Some people who had been around were calling the bubble (although some were calling it way too early like today). Mostly it was euphoria and everyone thinking they'll get rich. "I've done a 10x, if it keeps going up like this I'll be a millionaire by the end of the year" type of delusional shit. But it's never exactly like it was the time before, it would be too easy and if things were headed towards an obvious outcome that itself would be the very reason for the history to change it's course. A bit of both in my case, but more biased towards the latter. There were warning signs like Charlie Lee (and Vitalik? can't remember) selling and Katy Perry's nails. It seemed like it was getting too wild and that was enough for me to sell 10-15%. I still convinced myself it would keep going up and that 2018 would be the "year of the altcoin".
This time I'll be taking significant profits if it feels euphoric and won't let any bullish narratives (it's just the beginning, bitcoin ETF coming, mass adoption, etc.) change my mind no matter how convincing it seems.

honestly anon...threads like this (there's been a lot of them) make me think we aren't anywhere near the top yet. we're all still in disbelief. the top is something everyone is acclimated to....we feel entitled to pumps every day and everyone is so bullish it's hard to imagine the music stopping. I don't think we're even close yet. market top signals aren't going to look the same this time as they did the last one though either. people are seeing lindsey lohan and aria stark tweeting about shitcoins and think this must mean the top....but it doesn't. last cycle brought retail in....this cycle is unironically bringing corporate cash in. microservices, tesla, square, ect. these are just the first few in this cycles trend.
1 hours later 28568279 Anonymous
The only certainty is this crash is going to be absolutely fucking way more brutal than last time when it happens. People will keep thinking we’re at the top but it won’t be. Then at the flick of a switch it’ll all come crashing down when we probably least expect it.
It’ll be an absolute reckoning.
1 hours later 28568588 Anonymous
also, I know you didn't ask....but I think BSC is going to capture the defi market this cycle. ETH is still going to pump....probably to 10k like other anons are saying. but it's unusable at 10k for any defi project. interest in BSC has been picking up rapidly and binance provides the most normie friendly introduction to a new network for newfags and tech illiterates. I have my btc and eth holds, but I'm not as bullish on the eth shitcoin market now as I was the last few years.

Extreme bearish case scenario for bitcoin. Bitcoin peaks at about $150,000 around late summer / early fall and finishes between 20-40k, forming a gravestone doji candle on a 12 month chart. That will be massively powerful bear candle. It'll probably be the end of bitcoin. Thoughts?

i feel like this is happening too
big investment funds are now trading crypto. i noticed that theres an inverse relationship with crypto and stocks. when stocks rise, crypto falls, when crypto rises, stocks fall.
i'm speculating that, these big funds are taking their profits from stocks and moving it into crypto, riding that up, taking profit from crypto then throwing it back into stocks. rinse and repeat for infinite money.
i think its gonna be different this time around maybe. we're not going to see huge corrections anymore, the big funds are in a way "normalizing" the swings to their benefit and to prevent crazy pump n dumps on them.

I think this makes it a bigger gamble if anything. I hope it isn’t a false sense of security.

I know there's definitely a bit of hype starting to bubble around Binance Smart Chain. I just dont know if it displaces Ethereum's grasp on defi? I just cant see it, but no doubt, BSC can have its own part of the pie.

shit, i think this anon might be onto something. we know bitcoin is old and slow, aren't corporations like tesla making a mistake integrating with btc instead of something more lightweight and transaction-friendly?

>when stocks rise, crypto falls, when crypto rises, stocks fall.
both my boomerstocks and my crypto have been performing quite nicely. although the boomerstocks are boring af and just slowly crab up due to inflation (prices rise at the point where the money is injected into the economy. corps and banks get usd injections, stock prices inflate.)

I can tell you there were very few people calling it the top. The whole point of mania is that it feels like a new paradigm and that they will never go down again.
To put it simply, mania and the top of the bubble feels like the absolute worst time to sell in history. It will feel like you’re throwing money away selling when it’s going up so fast and getting so much attention.
The other thing to remember is that mania has to make such a massive impact that there has to follow a 2-3 year bear market. That means that by the end of the bubble, people have to feel sick to death of crypto and BTC. Can you imagine the current run causing anything like a multi year bear market? No, it has to be in everyone’s faces, on everyone lips and everyone has to get burned bad before the whole bull collapses. When you feel like nobody would ever sell, that’s when you sell. Saying it is much easier than doing it though

Crypto is treated like risky and a speculative asset class. It's the technology sector on steroids. The more bullish the stock market is, the higher bitcoin price will go. They are highly correlated. The store of value narrative for bitcoin is bogus, and it will drop like a rock in economic uncertainty. Crypto is technology, and useful cryptos will be used to facilitate a new financial system.

It’s all fucked up now. We have corporate entities and wealthy people buying 100’s of millions worth of crypto. It’s different this time. I would be sure to keep a big chunk of your BTC in cold storage and just pretend like it doesn’t even exist.

No it was very much like it is right now. Some people calling it the top, a couple doomposters and everyone telling them to fuck off and keep buying. It probably didn't really sink in for most people until it had dropped a good 50% and kept going.

Anon, that’s completely incorrect. As the price increases, the percentage increase price on buys/sells stays the same, meaning they increase too.
Person 1 wants to outbid to buy BTC at 1000 (fluctuating 999.95 - 1000.05) they can outbid with 1000.10
Person 2 wants to outbid to buy BTC at 100,000 (fluctuating between 99,995 - 100,005) they can outbid with 100,010.
Assuming both these people are first time investors starting with $500 worth, person 2 has moved the price of BTC 10x as much as person 1 with the same amount of money invested. It’s all about percentages at the end of the day, albeit this is slowly eroded as the price goes higher because there are more traders. In reality, it probably takes the same amount of money to move from 1k - 20k as it does to move from 20k - 100k. A guess, but it will be somewhere in between 39k and 400k because of these 2 factors

Bitcoin was at like 14k or something the last high before it crashed to 4k. Now it's almost 50k. Will it crash again? Definitely but not as far as it did before and itll come back to a new high.

It's going to crash bro, that is an undoubted certainty. What I am trying to gather from all the old fags is how they felt previously in the same type of cycle.
We may get to 250k before it bogs.
But it may just get to 100, no one knows. We can only use indicators and public sentiment.

You might think you'll know when it will crash, but you won't. Nobody does, that's why it crashes
Michael Saylor said: "I prefer an unstable appreciation of 200%/year than a stable depreciation of 15-20%/year"
If it crashes, ride the ride, don't sell. In the long term, you'll be making a huge amount of money. If you're in for a short-term get-rich scheme, you'll end up poor
If you know what you know now, wouldn't you want to go back in time and buy BTC@$20k back in 2017? If you answer no to that question, you're the type that will most likely will lose money with crypto
Crypto is a long-term asset, and once you get that, the world is yours

Fucking ripple at all the pump,
They coordinated a massive shill on coindesk and btcmag to claim themselves as SWIFT liquidity provider,
XRP ate all the fucking liquidity, i wouldnt be surprised if the embezzled more than 10B$ worth of crypto through their pump and dump scam.
Fortunately, i had insider info on xrp top price and sold at 3.33$, from then on, BTC tanked and took everything down along with it.

I knew crypto is the future but it was too hard watching my coins go from $1400 to 100-200s and I eventually sold. There was no knowing when the market would ramp back up.
I would never have guessed crypto would pump hard again only after a worldwide pandemic (and extreme money printing).
