So tell me /biz/ tell me why Monero wouldn't be a good investment, I'm highly considering grabbing some. I used to buy drugs with this shit back in the day, it was one of the only actual usable coins that is still trusted and accepted on those sites. Its still around 5x under ATH and affordable right now. Tell me honestly why not.

The hype will die down eventually, and the cream will rise to the top. Monero doesn't just "have a use case." It has the use case that BTC was supposed to have.

Monero isn't the only privacy coin and may not be the best. Grin seems to be technically superior and simpler, if they can fix their current issues. Zcash people claim their coin is way better. None of them will be listed on mainstream exchanges so they can never be pumped

>money laundering regulations would kill all crypto, it's not like they would spare bitcoin
Blockchain analysis technology mitigates the necessity to regulate cryptocurrencies like BTC, LTC, ETH, etc. Bitcoin tumbling/mixing was apparently effective and allowed people to cover their transaction trail, so the US government made them illegal. This did not hurt the adoption of bitcoin, and without the ability to tumble your coins, there is no need to regulate bitcoin since blockchain analysis can easily catch those who are laundering their money without enough opsec.
This leads me to believe that the only reason Monero hasn't been regulated is that they either don't realize it's a threat, or they've found a way to track transactions and are just allowing it to provide people a false sense of security.

Repeat until monero is worth 1$
XMR problem is that it is extremely bearish with all the negative fud circulating.
XMR will soon dropcrash towards 30$. It is currently in the top 30 and STILL showing a lot of bearish movement. It will not stop until it is back to 30$ or lower and then it will be forgotten forever by calling out of top 100 and drop to 1$. It is a dead shitcoin.
XMR failed because of its emission curve. It was way to fucking high at the start and not spread out enough. So now whales are literally ethernally dumping XMR. In the first 6 months 5 million XMR was minted. 5 million.
The distribution is just too fucked. There is no fixing it. Time to abandon it and sell your bags

Nice price driven FUD.
I can give you some more. Each of the arguments is actually superficial and can be challenged:
- news mostly about attacks, patches and delistings
- perceived as archaic and static compared to newer smart, agile and well-connected projects
- might get banned and then difficult to trade with no liquidity
- wallets not fool-proof, users of hardware wallets show up daily because they can't see their coins
- no ubiquitous ways to buy directly with fiat
- missing on important exchanges
- (relatively) high barrier of entry for 2021 batch of buyers and people unfamiliar with crypto
- not natively compatible with ETH ecosystem
- no equivalent to easy browser plugins (e.g. Metamask)
- Anti-Virus stops Monero wallet installations
- no major DeFi applications, locked-out of the system
- few ways to earn money & rewards
- rewards only people with beefy mining CPUs
- no staking
- no official support
- no supply deflation by incentivizing to lock-up XMR
- supply inflates forever
- hodlers get nothing and continuously pay for inflation
- network effects haven't reached critical mass
- indirect governance is difficult and incentivizes freeloading
- little incentive to build on top of XMR
- other projects have far greater resources
- might get tracked in the future
- privacy might get trivialized and becomes a worthless commodity
- many other projects add "good enough" privacy leaving XMR only attractive for marginal groups
- some DeFi protocol with a pool and stablecoin might offer seamless privacy and stability in DeFi ecosystem without having to jump through as many hoops as one has to do with XMR
3 hours later 28067625 Anonymous
>>28067576
- stigmatic reputation
- some reputable parties don't want to be associated with XMR
- big target for the government while other coins can fly under the radar
- already somewhat mature so less growth rate to be expected
- less price action means less attention
- age of coins with just one feature + chain might be over
- perpetual downtrend against BTC discourages hodling
- community encourages only to buy when people have a reason to dump/sell it right away
- investors are dumping in favor of BTC and DeFi which have monster momentum
- possibly giga-whales perpetually dumping
- uncertainty about supply bugs
- inefficiency in initial mining exploited
- parts of the code are weak and have never been properly audited (e.g. P2P stack)
- during attacks simple people had a bad user experience and nothing worked
- possible crackdown by governments and central banks on whole crypto space with uncertain outcome for XMR

If you're prepared to sit and wait patiently for Monero's moon mission then XMR makes a solid long-term investment.
Consider the following:
>daily TX keeping hitting ATH
>darknet adoption steadily rising
>atomic swaps on the way
>Bitcoin address blacklist keeps growing courtesy of the US Treasury
>major crime syndicates are moving into crypto
>global shadow economy is worth trillions of USD
As for all the FUD: Monero is the only coin that gets serious props and endorsement on r/darknet, not Bitcoin, not Zcash, not Dash, not Turtlecoin, not 0xMonero, the people on there literally have their freedom on the line so you can be sure they know their shit, if any of those coins were actually better than Monero you'd see them being recommended and used.
In other words, if r/darknet ain't recommending it, its a shitcoin.

There is an upside to:
- class-leading privacy coin
- real world adoption rising
- big organic community
- long history
- capable dev teams
- very decentralized
- no company/foundation
- might replace BTC for most use cases
- potential to become the class-leading currency coin
- Atomic swaps will enable XMR to tap into other coin universes with minimal metadata leaks and very low friction
- new buyers and speculators initially might not be aware of flaws in BTC and DeFi and in the future might migrate to XMR
- price action not fully exploited this cycle
- organic price action
- upside from informal sector onboarding is hundreds or thousands of X
- upside potential from more exchange listings
- wrapped versions and Atomic swaps enable DeFi usage, not yet fully exploited
- little known institutional involvement creates upside potential
- Grayscale Monero Trust will enable easy access for many investors
- most battle-proven privacy coin
- trusted and used by black hats
- honorable use cases might improve reputation
- low inflation and no gaming of the explicit supply with locking incentives etc.
- privacy features are working
- separation from other ecosystems keeps XMR running if they go downhill
- coin economics provide long term stability
- high demand for privacy should governments try to enforce regulation and taxes
- demand for anonymity 1 year after begin of crypto bull market because of tax panic
- demonstrated ability to fend off attacks
- demonstrated ability to keep network up-to-date with latest privacy features

its hardly just 'racism' thats the issue, though yes a big one.
and you seem to be forgetting just how hard the line divide is. theres two sets of 'normies', and it is very much half of them being targeted and learning the hard way why you cant trust... well, alot of things.
if these centralized networks and companies keep pushing like this and demonizing a growing number of so many, you'll easily see normies be FORCED to find alternatives. in some places, they already are. Parler was popular for a reason, and its crash saw a significant rise of popularity on other similar alt platforms, aswell as an exodus from twitter too. and its only getting worse.
i dont see why monetary systems wouldn't go down the same route, what with them pushing for similar too. Normies actually can and do adapt, the problem with them is they only do it when it feels like its directly impacting them, not when they see the signs of it getting bad.
