How much money are we talking about? Personally I love tepoztlan and my current goal is a house there with a flat in the city. I'm from there and need the connection to the airport, mainly cause it's the most international airport and I constantly need to go to Europe. If you're American and don't care about the beach I'd go to San Miguel de Allende which is basically an American expat town, but if you want cheap beach front land then Oaxaca or Baja are your best bet. Merida is great as well, but it's getting a lot of buzz recently (it's the city where all drug lords' families live, so it's safe cause it's off limits, but until/if the drug situation improves I'd always be wary of violence escalating). I don't like Monterrey, nor Guadalajara, but some people do. I also think Riviera Maya is a bit overhyped, I'd always go Pacific beaches first.

>>27950257 Can confirm, wife is from there been there myself at least 50x. Not a whole lot to do there outside of good restaurants and the beaches nearby (which are not the prettiest but relaxing), but it’s a wholesome and safe city. Maybe the only safe city in the whole country. I will likely move there myself at least for a few years after I /makeit/ until I figure out exactly how I want to put my money to work for me.

Mexianon here. Ignore all other comments and go straight to Merida. Safest city by far. Weather is shit, and the people speak like dumbasses but it´s the price to pay for being the safest place in this shithole of a country. You also have the perk of Cancun and the Riviera Maya being nearby so that´s a plus.

>>27958776 South American anon here. There are a few nice (i.e. well kept, low crime, high income) areas in pretty much any country, where you could move to after making it. The flipside is that once you leave those areas (which you'll want to do or else you'll feel like you're living in a fishbowl) you'll find yourself faced with brutal inequality. If you're a foreigner you'll stand out like a sore thumb. If you were local, you'd know how to fit in - relatively, but it wouldn't be necessarily fun. In both cases you're exposing yourself to real violent crime. So you need to figure out: Whatever you find great about the country you're moving to, is it worth it? In my case (i was born there in s.america) it wasn't. I moved to a developed country with lots of nature, so i don't miss that. I know that in a bad day belongings from my car can be stolen just like they could be back home, but i know for certain that if i walk down any street, i won't be faced with a gun to my head when some poor kid wants my cellphone so he can buy more drugs. I also can sleep at night knowing nobody will break in. I can also drive my car knowing nobody will pull up in front of me to carjack me. Etc etc.

Mexico City resident here. Unless you are super rich and don't mind earthquakes and gold diggers, it's pretty shit. There are plenty of better places, newfriends. Try Los Cabos, Merida, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo or San Miguel de Allende.

>>27958776 I've only visited it as a tourist but it's a nice country. Probably the wealthiest country next to Chile. Montevideo is pretty soulless but the countryside and coast is very nice. When buying a house it's best to buy a premade house because I heard from some people that run a hostel there that contractors will try to fuck you over as a gringo. It's politically very stable and it's called the Switzerland of South America because of all the banks there so maybe the tax laws are pretty favorable
