Link frens, I need your advice and you're the highest IQ here. Gemini wants to give me 4.5% APY on my linkies. what's the catch? why shouldn't I? seems safer & easier than chasing yield farming (does another still do that?)

There's also the fact that a third party has custody of your tokens, and that YOU are completely liable if they somehow fuck up and lose them all as per their agreement.
Still, that 4.5% does sound nice, and would be an extra $16,000 a year for me.

you still get link gains, and can withdrawal at any time.

that is sketchy..
>>27566337
absolutely, but when LINK is 50$, the interest payout to me will be >100k/yr at current rates. How else do I cash in on that easy financial freedom?

You think there will be more "safer" options in a few years? I could lock up like something like 10k link and see how much apy it could yield. That $16k would be more than enough for me to subsist one year without working

i'm not even worried about that that much honestly. gemini wouldn't loan out link to institutions or market makers that don't have the funds to cover if they lose it all. it's just to cover their asses.

I hope so, but staking will also *probably* be live by the end of this year, and providing collateral as a node operator or in a pool could potentially be even more lucrative.

It feels good to even think about it, doesn't it
I've already cashed out $250k from Link and I still have top 1000 wallet left. I just want to stake/apy like 15 to 20k of my Link and perhaps keep something like 10k to 20k in case ready to sell if it starts to go full moon.
I'm already approaching extreme comfy levels that only Link oldfags can know (who bought under $1). Yeah, I think we are going to make it

I have been looking into this recently as staking FOMO has been getting to me the past few weeks, and I am concerned about the long-term capital gains tax implications. It seems like some of these custodial lending programs will not realize the gains, while doing token swaps on DEX lending pools will immediately trigger a gain realization (honestly not really sure if this is how it works when you lend on them though desu). I've been playing it by the books on taxes to avoid IRS rape, so for any other good boys into staking what has been your take on this?
Also, aside from Gemini's 4.5%, Celsius is currently at 4.51%, Zeus Capital (Nexo) is at 6% and Bitfinex at 3.84%. Well after the insane earlybird lending rates last year I am still seeing recent claims of bookoo APY on Yearn (via yaLink) and some of these lesser known DEX/DEX-likes such as Bancor, but Bancor for instance is only listing an APY of 1.41% on LINK (assuming you even get into the pool), and if Aave has a current APY of 0% I don't understand how you can make money through yaLink unless you already own it (could be mistaken here though, I'm under the impression you earn interest as aLink rather than swap for it upfront). How exactly do these token conversion games go down for something like Bancor (aside from staking BNC after receiving payouts)? Are people using loans to get a hold of some of these convoluted derivative tokens for increased APY? Likewise, are the gas fees factored into the current APY for these DEXs?

Seems like an appropriate thread to ask: I'm a crypto newb waiting for link to go sub $20 then I'm buying in. Is there any particular reason why I shouldn't use Gemini? Considering it's the only crypto exchange approved by actual financial institutions in the US it seems way more secure than just getting a metamask extension on brave and dumping money into it.

Yeah we have been getting a cut of their node profits since mainnet. Has really spiked up of late to about 6LINK/LP per fortnight. Think this next one will be quite a bit lower (less volatility). But yeah this should be interesting >>27567490
3 hours later 27579084 Anonymous
>>27576600
But the borrow APR for those stablecoins is way fucking higher than the lending APY. Do you mean lending them on other platforms then Aave? It still wouldn't make sense though given that APR is multiples higher than 8% APY. If I'm wrong please explain, I am finally interested in learning how all of this works. Likewise, if you've been borrowing, what is the minimum health factor necessary in order to avoid all precedents for liquidation in stablecoin volatility ? Probably more than 1.4 right?

Where? Also stablecoin loan rates are through the roof, they're bouncing between 10% to 20% APR.

>Bancor for instance is only listing an APY of 1.41% on LINK
Ok nvm I see it now, rewards make it 128.97% APY for the next month. Really tempting, but they're using marketing tactics to make it seem like the platform has impermanent loss protection (when you really need to be in the pool for 100 days to get full protection). If I understand correctly, this means that lending even with these crazy rewards only makes sense if you expect LINK to not make a 10.75% (128.97% on the monthly) appreciation in the next ~35 days. With that in mind, it seems way way more risky to be throwing LINK into a lending pool desu. Am I misunderstanding the impermanent loss risk here or wrong for other reasons? Even the crazy APYs on YFLUSD's release seem not good enough in this context.
