Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized p2p privacy cryptocurrency! Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT (hidden tx amounts) ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a Monero user willingly providing a view key for a specific transaction. Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of txs increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in May 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network. If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly. Say, for educational purposes, that I don't like taxes. If I move the current coin that I'm holding from a KYC exchange to a non-KYC exchange, and sell it there, does that transfer leave a trace or am I anonymous? What should I do otherwise?

Hey so I was considering mining to pay off my gaming PC, and with ethereum ending soon my hopes would have to lay with XMR, CPU mining is the only thing power efficient enough from the looks of it. But does anyone have any advice on this?

2 hours later 26465442 Anonymous
>>26465229 It's exactly the opposite. Ethereum mining on a GPU and exchanging it for XMR is more profitable than just mining it on a CPU. Currently a 3080 will net you around 5 USD/day, mining with a modern CPU's it's a lot less.

>>26465442 Sorry I think I have to clarify. I will mine ethereum but they are switching to proof of stake with ETH 2.0 and eventually won't be minable at all. I was probably going to mine LBRY later not for profit to support the decentralized internet and freedom of information on my GPUs. My question was if you look at the benchmarks XMR mining on CPU is about 75% profit to power. Whereas on GPU it's negative, has anyone seen a workaround, and if I buy a like 3k CPU can I mine my money back assuming everything checks out power wise?

2 hours later 26466068 Anonymous
>>26465839 What? A gpu earns a lot more as the other anon said. Buying a pc to mine would be pretty dumb. Best is having a mid tier gaming pc (best price/perf) to game and mine on the side. Upgrade on regular basis, flagship hardware always gets rekt next gen anyway

Is this normal? If Monero is experiencing organic growth, shouldn't the trend be that it's always slowly going up? It looks like it's just going up and down with no growth lately.

>>26468577 >high level purpose or use case for TARI ? it's basically a semi-private blockchain for digital assets, mergemined with monero >semi-private Better than most other cryptos still, but less then monero. Uses mimblewimble. >digital assets Can be things like in-game items/skins, collectables but also convert/event tickets. Fluffypony already works with one of his irl friends who wants to build a ticketmaster like site (and has funding for it) >mergemined with monero not exactly sure about how it works, but basically this protects tari with moneros hash rate, ensuring a secure blockchain from day 1. In return the tari investors pay for monero relay nodes in china (like 10k USD/month) and provide a good chunck to the general monero fund. Tari fails without monero, so investors are indirectly supporting monero as well. The testnet is online already, just try the android/ios wallet. imo user experience is much nicer than monero. Wallet addresses are emojis and much more normie friendly (essentially forces copy & paste of address, makes it easier to compare). Transactions are almost instant, 1-2 seconds in my experience. It's also nice that you can attach a message to the payment, making it easy for the recipient to know what the money was for. >is it some sort of ethereum I don't know how much smart contract things are possible, but I don't think it's designed to be a general purpose defi app engine.

5 hours later 26472342 Anonymous
>>26472138 think of digital assets like collector items. There are only a finite amount of them. They can't be reproduced or created out of thin air, like cryptocurrencies. A good example is a limited edition character skin for a video game, in which there are only 100 of these assets. They get sold out fairly quickly and then later people/collectors will go out of their way to buy these skins on some sort of digital assets market.

5 hours later 26472490 Anonymous
>>26472138 if I understand correctly it's more a proof of ownership and the blockchain does not store the data itself. Ownership can be transfered, so expect people to resell your book once they've read it. I've only spend a couple hours on research so I might be wrong. For media and especially videos lbry is imho the best option rn. Unfortunalty it has no privacy, otherwise I'd use it much more.
