Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized p2p privacy cryptocurrency!
Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT (hidden tx amounts) ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with the proof of the transactions being possible by a Monero user willingly providing a view key for a specific transaction if needed.
Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of the current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of txs goes higher. Further, the mining network algorithm Random X establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in May 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.
If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a Monero Chad will be with you shortly.

Is this breakout (shouldn't be called that but we've been crabbing for awhile now) to $160 a fluke? Or are we back to going on the uptrend?

If you want to be a real general you bros gotta link the previous general and number each one. Plus a pastebin archive for the old breads etc.
That said this is my comfiest long term hold

The problem with linking the generals is we are actually at a character limit in the OP. It also requires the OP to do extra work instead of throwing up the general. We are also not hitting the thread limit each time, so it’s probably too early for that. Maybe in a few months.
And I’m against numbering the threads. That’s too autistic.

When the beating of your heart
Echoes the pumping of the chart
There is a bull about to start
When tomorrow comes!
We will see. I feel Monero has a lot of smart and volatile Money, hence the past bleeding against BTC. Now supply and demand gets less and less elastic with regard to BTC.
Professional pumpers are staying away because they don't know what they are up against. With normal coins, they analyze all wallets, check the condition and location of the whales and the normal plebs, and then plan their moves accordingly. They can see how many coins are at each exchange and when coins are being sent there.
None of this is possible with XMR markets. Our waters are so dark and murky that they wouldn't know if there was a Leviathan lurking just centimeters away from them once they start their pumping and dumping schemes.

We can probably just cut the mymonero mobile wallet being a scam on android. Morons are going to get phished regardless of us putting that warning on there.
There may also be some cuts to the first few paragraphs, though I think it does a good job of summarizing moneros technology.

This.
By now it should be Google's responsibility. They have gotten so many warnings not to permit this app. Is it still there? I think it already got taken down a few times.

Paying in hard cash is private, but it's not digital for obvious reasons. And if you want to pay someone digitally, you typically have to do it via bank transfer, card or some other method that is linked to an account that can identify you (therefore it isn't private). You can't satisfy both criteria at the same time with cash.

Potential downsides for me would primarily be the fact that normies would be afraid of buying XMR. Regardless of whether any talk about banning it has merit, they'll assume by default that it is, and that Monero is at risk of losing value. This makes it rather hard for XMR to encourage any FOMO.

A very smart anon in the previous thread said right now it's speculation market time and the actual crypto market is in a correction (somethin to that effect anyway). I agree with his take because a lot of shit I'm following that has decent fundamentals is right now circling the drain in satoshi value. >Delayed gratification, or deferred gratification, describes the process that the subject undergoes when the subject resists the temptation of an immediate reward in preference for a later reward. Generally, delayed gratification is associated with resisting a smaller but more immediate reward in order to receive a larger or more enduring reward later.[1] A growing body of literature has linked the ability to delay gratification to a host of other positive outcomes, including academic success, physical health, psychological health, and social competence.

Consider the fact that Monero has probably some of the most viable usage as currency for big (clandestine or otherwise) purchases and the fact that Monero is generally less volatile than shitcoins starts to make some sense. In a scenario where a buyer and seller agree to terms on a deal (let's say a purchase of goods that cost $5M. to be paid in XMR) there is significant incentive for the buyer and the seller, especially the seller, to place enough XMR sell orders on an exchange to ensure the price remains stable until the goods have changed hands and the seller has cashed out to BTC/fiat.
I suspect that this kind of price fixing occurs regularly with Monero because it's one of the only cryptocurrencies that is actually being used as intended. Eventually retail interest should catch up to this kind of market manipulation.

um... youre almost right. the correlation is there but your causation is off. Money flows into monero prior to a btc dump, smart, big money going to a private coin to weather out a btc dip. it's actually a really good indicator for btc movement

>if you make a coin truly private you can1T audit the supply and then it's worth $0
You can verify the integrity of the supply by:
- Summing up all the coinbase outputs, which are unmasked (i.e. in the clear).
- Verifying the underlying cryptography (mathematics) of the confidential amounts implementation.
- Verifying the correctness of the implementation in the code.
Those essentially guarantee that the supply has not been maliciously inflated (i.e. unintended inflation has occurred). Note that a similar procedure has to be followed for transparent chains. Furthermore, a hypothetical inflation bug can go unnoticed even on a transparent chain.
